I'm not sure if I should get back into MoW:AS, I havent played it in a couple months and I'd probably be really rusty. Have they fixed mines yet?
Mines... haven't seen them used in any of the competitive games I've watched.
Mines... haven't seen them used in any of the competitive games I've watched.
Mines, they broke them in the patch awhile ago so they would not explode if run over. By competitive games you mean idiots who think games are about competition and not having fun to increase your epeen. I played with pubs and sometimes ranked with some steam friends in 4v4's or 6v6's and kicked ass whilst having fun. Wait, nope they havent. Patch 1.97.7 still has broken mines.
[editline]14th November 2011[/editline]
wait, how so?
iirc AP mines work in the game by stringing little wires between the tops of the mines to the top of other mines, so any man who runs through it triggers it. At least that's how I interpreted it.
As for barbed wire, yeah it goes down real easy, I've often destroyed a section with the engy truck I'm using to lay it.
Maybe make it do tire damage to vehicles but not tanks?
Nope, they are little mines that when run within 1/2 meter radius explode unless you send partisans or spare crewman to pave the way via MP loss. Or.. you could be all tactical and use mine detector inf.
I find competition fun >.>
Anyway, no, I don't think mines have been fixed unless there were hidden in the recent patch notes.
if you call getting 8+ 8 man squads at the start of a campaign named after a rival WWII RTS... sure that's stealth!

100% free
community supported. Me and the guys from RW/CG plan to play these maps.

There are gaps in your defensive line there, I could easily send in a strike force of a couple tractors with riflemen on them.

Do we know/played against each other?
I'm actually talking to Triumph (who designed quite a few of the maps for the map packs) now.
maybe, what name do you use in game
you know Mithras, Seth, LauBox, Ritter, Judkins, etc?
because I played games with them.

if you're playing frontlines, minesweeper tanks FTW
especially if you're japan
nothing like 6 flamethrowers on one tank.

Is it me or is Men of war becoming the Call of duty for Strategy games? Think about it, Men of war's HUD had a bolt on the HUD in the left bottom corner, while Assault squad doesn't. From what I can tell, Vietnam uses the older engine while AS uses a newer one, Vietnam is published this year and MOW condemned heroes is supposed to be out Q1 2012. Now what that means to me is that DMS and 1C take turns pushing out yearly releases just like Infinity ward and Treyarch.
And like cod. They each reuse 90 percent of the content.
It's a good game with modding capabilities and that makes up for it. Lazy as shit though.
I'd get back into MoW:AS but I'd ruin my rank in ranked games, I have score of 800.

Ranked games aren't really worth playing. Unless you know a group of people, I wouldn't play ranked. Even if you did it's near impossible to get a game because of how strict the point balance must be.

Now that you mention it, it is pretty much impossible to start not just ranked games but any game with a desirable ping in MoW:AS because of the tiny playerbase.

If you live in mountain time like me, the latest time you can get a game is around 3pm.

that analogy breaks down in 2 points:
1. MoW is underplayed and relatively small
2. DMS has been striving to eliminate old content in the patches for AS, they have been buying new 3D models from professional 3D modelers and including them in the patches. The backward leap for MoW:V is because it's published by 1C. Condemned Heroes will also be published by 1C.
However, MoW2 (or whatever it will be called) will be published by DMS, but probably not until much much later, on a newer engine.
Also...
And while exciting, we also have great news for our current players. Soon after the holidays, we will release a multiplayer add-on for the game introducing 15 new and unique special unit call-ins. The best part? They will be entirely free for everyone!
Am I the only one hoping for a proper coop campaign? I have a friend that is great at RTS games, and we had a lot of fun just playing through the missions in AS, even though they weren't even proper coop missions with secondary objectives and stuff.
Coop in faces of war was where it was at.

I would not say its underplay, players are just deterred because there is no tutorial for multiplayer.. and most of the mow community give it a bad name, such as people spamming the chat and being elitist does not help the dwindling community. Just this morning I was going to play mowas and some idiot named TROXTER was spamming the chat to hell.

There are some good guys in the "elitist" group. I've been playing with a lot of them recently, and most of the non-russians are nice.
@trotsky
I go by angus725 in game as well.
I haven't heard of any of the people you play with. I play with...
A few CG guys,
Triumph and his EPIC guys,
neohassee and some sweds,
butcher, michaelb, baloo from BW,
and that's about it.

most SP missions work in Co-op and a lot of authors are porting traditional SP missions to AS, from MoW and FoW

it's hit and miss, some of the community is good, others are not as good. From what i've seen the majority of the really good players in the community are good, it's it's the medium and shitty players are the worst in terms of attitude. I think that again, players are deterred because they want the game to adapt to them, they don't want to adapt to the game.

shit's a lot harder than original FoW at times
unfortunately this mod is not coming to MoW:AS because
"Yes, it does. I'm about to pronounce this mod dead, as I can't get the firs few missions to work properly, and also, the missions are just too dang hard with the improved accuracy of the 20mm flak guns. Only the Walcheren Island mission is remotely possible, as there are very few 20mm Flakvierling turning your troops to mush. I have gotten that mission to work (horrray!), but I can't get any others."

Because he said so.
it's not just the flaks, it's the mission scripting that's a bit broke too
So it is a mod, but it is broken, but it is also a DLC? I'm confused...
So it is a mod, but it is broken, but it is also a DLC? I'm confused...
It's not DLC, it's the missions from one game copied over to another. The pack works on men of war, so yes, it's sort of a mod.
The engine and scripting are too different to use the ported missions on Assault Squad though.
I haven't played the faces of war pack, should try them once. Are they co-op too?
[editline]18th November 2011[/editline]
Yeah, they are. Sweet!

I've only played them co-op, some missions are just too hard without my needles
that being said I prefer the medic system in assault squad... where only the medics have morphine. would be interesting if it worked like that in multiplayer, but would increase the micro burden by like 5000x
Maybe we should organize some Facepunch games. I have some friends I can play it with (mostly mod developers) and there are enough Russians but it's a lot less fun without communication and with a dickhead kicking everyone in the opposing team who's better than him, then it usually turns into curbstomp and that's no fun at all.
If enough people want this I could set up a steam group.
I thought we already had a steam group. Either way I should really grind out some extra cash for Assault Squad.
I'd be in for a steam group, go ahead and make one.
more MoW:AS buddies the better
Also, is it just me or are the DMS forums down.
