The nightmare was the worst part of Max Payne. [sp]Fucking bloodtrails, you fall off them too easily. Max Payne was not made to be a platformer.[/sp]
I remember those in Max Payne, I actually developed a way to skip a certain nightmare.
You'd jump straight of the tip of the first 90 degree bloodtrail corner, right into the darkness, and you'd land on the last straight or so of the nightmare path.
it appears to you more clearly when you take the leap towards it, it was dark you know
needless to say it was fucking awesome.

Payne is so awesome he can skip his own nightmares?
Also, this thread made me reinstall MP2. I played the hell out this game, one of my favourites. I love the first one as well, but something just makes me go back to the second one. I love how they made the game look really well - it still looks okay by today's standards - and optymalized at the same time. Hell, my 6 years old notebook runs it on the highest settings without breaking a sweat!

Let's be optimistic. Maybe at one point shit gets set on fire [sp]similar to the levels in MP2 like the one with the cleaners[/sp] and his luscious hair gets set on fire.
dude. this is going to be awesome.
My optimism is slightly rising, although I don't want to get hyped for this because it still has a massive chance of disappointing me
ooo lala, do i see a ruger?!

hopefully MP3 is chock full of different guns, like an unnecessary amount.
He could always just shave his head for whatever reason, he doesn't have to be actually balding.
Unless the game is just going to be one epic advertisement campaign for Rogaine?
Balding from stress perhaps? I dunno if you guys noticed this, but Max's hair was slowly receding in Max Payne 2.
I don't care about balding as long as they don't turn him into Bruce Willis (because he looks exactly like him atm)
I'm mostly worried about making the new setting fit the theme of the previous games
Man that's a huge leap.
From New York to Brazil.
From Max to Bruce.
he looks more like a fat russian logger version of bruce willis
I played the fucking living shit out of 2. It was amazing. I only just got 1 though. I have yet to actually start it because of it's sound issues on windows 7.
That said. I'm being optimistic for MP3 because of how good 2 was.

I like in the first level of MP2 the old ladies that give you stuff. I was so close to giving them both a facefull of buckshot it wasn't even funny. :v:

I always kill them. No matter what.
perhaps his painkiller addiction makes him lose all his hair
It's not an addiction, it's a choice [between life and death]
like hair and no hair
life and death(of hair).
At first I was pretty apprehensive about MP3
But from the screenshots (especially the new ones) it looks like its going to be a good game
Not going to count my chicken now though.
The only thing I still feel out of it is the Bruce Willis in Brazil. But to be fair I can accept it more from what I've seen.
I guess as long as they keep the John Woo style gameplay, the graphic novel cut scenes and the hilarious enemy dialogue for the bruce willis in brazil part, im cool with it.
IIRC Graphic Novel cut scenes will either be cut or limited.

I withdraw my past comments of negativity.
I remember when I first saw the cutscene with Vinnie Gognitti in MP2. I literally shouted FUCK YES out loud, because I loved him in the first one.
Max Payne 2 was pretty awesome when it came to guns.
After a firefight, there would be shell casings and magazines everywhere.
Don't forget Mike the Cowboy.

Don't forget the bullet holes. I was incredibly impressed by that.

I've got my own little theory about Max going bald.
Edge was shown a demo where the wife of Payne client Rodrigo Branco’s wife is kidnapped by the Commando Sombre street gang, and Payne must deliver the ransom to get her back. In the mission, Payne has a full head of hair. According to Nelson, the game is “always playing with time in the story,” going ‘backwards and forwards” using “aggressive editing”.
Payne meets with the gang in a football stadium to exchange the ransom for Rodrigo’s wife. Shots are fired and Payne is struck, which is when his health icon in the bottom right of the screen goes low and needs to be restored by popping pills.
Alright, so Max is supposed to exchange money for someone's wife (I assume that after the events of MP2 he was fired - understandably - from the NYPD, left the country and went to Brasil for some reason - maybe Mona had some contacts in Brasil about whom he found out somehow? -, and started to work as a private detective or someone like that). That someone is a guy named Rodrigo Blanco, probably someone powerful. As we know, things go to shit. Now it's time for speculation. Because the shootout happened, we can assume that Rodrigo's wife is dead. Now either:
a) Rodrigo blames Max for the fuck-up. Being a powerful man with nothing to lose, he starts hunting Max. Max's hair starts falling out, him being an older and very stressed man at this point. He has to run away, for the first time in his life. He enlists as a bodyguard for an enemy of Rodrigo's - every powerful person has enemies - seeing as he's in the position of being hunted for the third time and has some experience in staying alive.
OR:
b) Max is devastated by the fact he lost the woman he was supposed to protect - for the third time. He shaves his hair. Rodrigo hires Max as a bodyguard, probably convincing him he (Max) will have a chance to redeem himself and take revenge on the gang at the same time.
So, what do you think?
Max Payne 2 had the absolute worst fucking save system I've ever seen. Vlad's restaurant? I get all the way to the catwalks and down, die from lack of painkillers in the entire damn level, and then it's back to the whole "The stench of my last visit here still lingered in the air" for a damn hour.
