Originally he was considered OP during the AoE meta, when all of his skills did a vast amount more damage, and when his ult lasted .5 seconds longer. He was so good because his AoE CC ult was a good substitute for amumu's, so you could have a strong sidelane tank and put someone stronger than amumu in the jungle.

However, the AoE meta is over and Galio has since received a ridiculous number of nerfs and some insignificant buffs.

Let's get this straight: [b]Galio has less CC than any other tank but Singed[/b] (but there's actually some incentive to attack singed...). Yes, I'm aware that Shen also only has one CC but it's a taunt of the same duration as Galio's on about 10% of the cooldown. He CCs less than any other tank. He's also not as tanky as Alistar or Rammus. So [b]what does Galio have that makes him worth picking over any other tank now that the AoE meta is basically over?[/b]

He used to have damage, but Riot took that away. Then they took even more damage off of his E, which basically tickles now. They transferred that damage to his Q. Please, allow me to explain why this is a bad idea:

His E is easy to hit, but still dodgeable. It's got good range and it's a good AoE farming tool. It gives him lane control if he needs it, but he can't spam it because of the mana cost. It was a pretty balanced skill, but Riot wanted to make Q his bread and butter skill. This is bad because it has a terrible projectile speed. The width of his E is about as wide as the AoE of Q, and E is 1000 range. [b]There will be no point in the game when you can hit more people with Q than you could with E, yet Q is clearly meant to be his main skill.[/b]

The worst part about Q is its awful projectile speed. When using it anywhere near max range,the time that it takes to actually hit the target area is about the same time as it takes for Cho'Gath's rupture to go off, but Rupture has a 1:1 ratio and knocks up before slowing. In other words, [b] Galio's Q is meant to be his main skill, but it's just as hard to hit as Rupture with about a third of the payoff[/b].

So we've established now that Galio is gimped, being less tanky than the tankiest of tanks and having less CC and Damage than basically all of them (Shen does less damage but Shen isn't exactly in a good place now, is he?).

Just to reiterate, The few "buffs" that Galio has received were nerfs to E (the more reliable, useful skill) and Buffs to Q (about as reliable as Rupture but more obvious and less effective).

That's not even the worst/weakest part about Galio. Okay. look at all other tanks besides Galio. What do they have in common? One guess. that's right! [b]All tanks besides Galio have a distance closer![/b]. Tanks need to be in the heart of the fray in order to do their job. Nobody of any intelligence is going to let a tank just walk up into the middle of their fight, are they? Let's take a tally of other tanks and their distance closers:

[B]Alistar[/B] - Headbutt>Pulverize
[B]Amumu[/B] - Bandage Toss
[B]Jarvan IV[/B] - Demacian Standard+Dragon Strike, or Cataclysm (yeah, he has 2 closers! and I know he's tanky DPS, but tank jarvan isn't that rare)
[B]Rammus[/B] - Powerball
[B]Singed[/B] - Long range slow, high movespeed, and CC reduction on ult to prevent kiting
[B]Leona[/B] - Zenith Blade
[B]Malphite[/B] - Unstoppable Force has a built-in dash
[B]Shen[/B] - Shadow Dash
[b]Maokai[/b] - Twisted Advance (if you consider Maokai a pure tank)

Galio can only close distance with flash, which has a 255 second cooldown. "But wait," you say, "You can take 21 points into utility and get reduced CD for summoners!". Yeah, you sure can. And as every other tank gets extra survivability from their 21 in Defense, you can be happy knowing that your gap closer wasted a summoner spell slot and STILL takes 195 seconds to come off CD. Plus 21 in utility gimps the Galio plus Fortify strategy, which isn't a big deal because no one is dumb enough to fall for it outside of pre-30 games.

So yeah, [b]flash is his only gap closer and not only can everyone take it, but it's got a monstrous cooldown unless you stray away from actual Tank Masteries[/b].

The only thing he has in his kit that will help him close any kind of distance is his E's speedboost. But wait! According to every buff that Galio has received, we are meant to max Q. And then you'll basically need to max W if you want to not die. And even ic E was buffed again, a 50% speedboost that only works in a straight line would be FAR inferior to the dashes that the other tanks have.

Also, here's an interesting quote from Morello. Here he's talking about Leona: . Which of Galio's two long-cooldown skills have this quality? Oh yeah, neither of them. So, [b]Galio lacks the "common tank trait" of being more of a threat the longer a fight lasts [/b].

Basically he needs to either be made into a threat, be given more CC or a peel of some sort, or be given a gap closer. Hell, probably all three. I really love Galio, but he's so weak right now that I don't feel good about picking him unless the enemy team is full AP, and even then I could just stack MR on another tank and still probably do more damage.

Please post, anyone who's played Galio give some ideas on how to fix him or why you think he's fine, whatever. Need to keep this alive, need some official info on what Riot plans to do about this fallen soldier.[/QUOTE]

If you need a first win bonus easily, play a coop vs. ai, either on basic or intermediate, but I suggest the second option because it's more rewarding and only a bit easier.

Madreds is okay on side dpsers

DPS carries like Yi and Ashe should always go for crit dps though

How accurate are the difficulty ratings on each champ? If they're not that great what are some easy champions to pick up?

Oh and how do I decide which lane to go down? Should certain types of characters go down certain lanes or should I just go down a lane that needs me?

You now have more dragon control than the other team.
Also you have more control over the middle towers which are worth more than the side ones.
