Mine loaded WAY faster than his.

I guess it really must rely on the internet connection too, I can't really think what would be big enough that you have to download every single time, even server specific details seem like they'd be only ~1mb big and I doubt they'd make people redownload the characters or maps again and again

Maybe it's the upload? you upload your specific game details or whatever so it checks you aren't cheating and are logged in as you, I could see that taking a little time to upload but certainly not ~5 minutes :/

The next items are Warmog's (simultaneously selling philo stone) and Atma's Impaler. After AI I build Bloodthirster, either by building it from VS or selling VS and getting BFS first.
The final build should be like this:
