True, but like, in the laning phase her shield will be perma up due to hitting creeps, though I've also been looking into mordekaiser, which of the three would you say would be best as a zoning tank, making the enemy afraid of coming near you, allowing a ranged to rape creeps etc, and deny melee's gold.

Kong Mao is pretty strong but has no escapes. However he probably does more single target damage than any other ranged dps. Build him like you would teemo, or go AP. Just not AD it doesn't work as well for him.[/QUOTE]

AP Kogmaw is a squishy son of a bitch, but he's fun because 3/4ths of his shit can be done from 1000+ range. He is vulnerable to being chased down due to his low base movespeed (305)[1] and complete lack of distancing moves.
This means that if anyone gets in melee range of you then someone is going to die. This isn't always you, though! Kogmaw has awesome damage output if you have moderate farm.
Patch Notes
The most recent (Leona) patch made his R drop faster. This is actually a big deal because you can now reliably hit targets with boots without Rylai's.
He also got a duration buff to his W, which makes it a far, far better skill. It was decent before, but now it's actually you're #1 lane harass tool. It's low mana and has great uptime!
That being said, still max E over W. The burst damage/farming capability of your Ooze is necessary.

Lack of distancing moves combined with slow movespeed.
Reliance on farm to do more than meaningless pokes.
Huge reliance on mana. If you're OOM then you're super duper worthless.
It's also really easy to run yourself dry with careless use of R.

Best range in the game!
Insane damage output with Max CDR as long as you have mana.
Ridiculously fun to kill runners with a series of 3 R hits.
Lategame: Ridiculously fun to kill full-health champs with a series of 3 R hits.
Amazing farm capability. E + R and a few autoattacks will clear entire waves.

Kog'maw as a whole got a really great buff this patch. I've been having a hella good time as AP these days and I'm going to try out AS Kog again soon.

Probably keep the Philo Stone for a while and maybe Randuin's + B. Veil combo and Aegis of Legion somewhere. I'm not a fan of Warmog's Armor. Frozen Heart does look good though.
I'm not too sure though, since Alistar has his ultimate which turns him into god.

It's good, but you shouldn't be taking too many last hits until later when the carrys are farmed well, and by then you should be on to other items, so maybe drop the Warmog's for something else. That's a pretty hefty sum of gold spent better elsewhere.

Alistar is my main tank atm, I give you my build:
Regrowth pendant or boots if you're going to roam, always take hp pots, since you shouldn't be wasting your mana anyways.
Build philo-stone 1st, then Sheen altough optional, but it's epic on Alistar.
upgrad boots into merc's if cc is taking you down, otherwise get glacial shroud
Next up build Kindlegem, which you can upgrade into spirit visage, or if you want, shurelia's
upgrade glacial into froz-heart
You core is here mostly: Mercs, F-heart, Sheen, Philo, S-Visage
Before you go /ragemode and ask WTF SPIRIT VISAGE U NUTS BRO?? It works on Alistar, gives him everything needed; HP, CDR and Mres and also handy passive encouraging you to spam ur heal and proc sheen more often
After my core I usually build Bveil if mages are gettin my arse beaten, if physical, Sunfire because scales well with passive.
Skillz:
Max Pulverize 1st and also take it 1st.
Take whichever you want at lv2, but aim for having all spells at lv3 (personally I get HB for lv2 FB due to tower.)
secondly you should max Headbutt, your ult ofc whenever it's available since heal becomes less cost-efficent with lvl and your headbutt gets less cd per lvl, so max it 2nd to keep enemies cc'd.
Runez:
Attspeed reds (Don't you DARE... to get armor or mres reds.... ò__________ó)
Flat armor yellows
flat cdr blues
Movespeed quints
Overall good runes for Alistar, reds help you last-hitting and also you can go all Chuck Norris on them while in your ultimate, since it gives you 2 free B.F swords max lvl
Masteries 9/0/21, maxing the increased crit in offence tree, since you can upgrade sheen into triforce lategame, and it's more usefull on Alistar, since riot nerfed his AP ratios like fuck, also to seriously beat anybody up (I once went 1v2 against Jarvan and Morde --> Walked out of it alive... yes, one does simply walk into Mordekaiser) Take improved flash and ghost if you're using it, increased buff duration if someone kindly gives you Blue(or red) buff, the extra movespeed also works well on Alistar

Skillz: R>Q>W>E
Runes: Attspeed Red, Armor yellows, Flat cdr blues, MS quints

Quick note; this build may seem odd, but it focuses on tanking and maxing CDR at the same time, Alistar needs CDR like fuck to become godlike (6-7 sec cd on hb and pulverize with 40% cdr, dat CC).
