Actually on our elo level the perfect team build is not as necessary as on high elo (the jungler thingy I mentioned yesterday) so just try to refuse the peer pressure (lol) and play something YOU want.
You might end up on higher elo as long as you don't suck cause you can actually DO something hardcore instead of tanking around or heal your mates.

Because I like getting some AS first and with a BC I still do 200+ damage and have the crit from Fury to lean on.

It works pretty well when your teammates aren't mongoloids from 15th century Britain.

Malzahar is a DoT burst mage, he has no sustained damage of any sort. Like Swain, all of his damage is dealt in 3-4 seconds.

Only Cassiopeia, Karthus, and Vladimir can be considered sustained damage.
