I think the only reason they ban Morde is because of his ultimate.

Morde is cool, but I can't image "high ELO" players even caring about champion with completely no Crowd Control.

He is good laner, resistant during teamfights, can deal considerable damage and stay alive, but outside of that he is pretty much here for Ultimate.

I enjoy him, because if given a chance he will become high damage + high survivability wrecking ball, but that's only because people don't care to even think about way to kill him without killing themselves.

For example :

2vs1 Gank on Morde that has sololane.
a) Wait till he uses his abilities
b) Wait till there are no more minions around him (both his and enemy)
c) Wait till he comes closer to your turret

95% of players I've encountered as Morde pick a) and c)

They don't realise that if I am not literally under the turret I will just shield myself with damage deal to them AND minions.

If they attack like in b) Morde is much less durable.

There is also a trick during laning, where you stay [B]next[/B] to your minions, so that if Morde wants to use Siphon of Destruction he has to pick :
- harass you
- charge shield/kill minions

If you use minions as a shield he can do both.
