Why are you multiplying 4% by 4000? That's the enemy champion's health, not your DPS.

6 in the armor pen tree helps early game due to very low armor figures (18~average) and generally speccing into the offensive tree allows you to trade with enemy ranged carry and win the trade.

The risk of death was only higher (which was better since then the warriors would go to Valhall faster and die in an honourable battle.)

Although you can combine them and see what you get for tier 3 runes.
