The website has been returning 500s mixed with pages of text saying "Database Error". When the submit button does nothing, that means the AJAX request failed due to the 500 code. When you are redirected to a blank page, that means the AJAX request raised an error because the contents of the reply was text, not JSON/XML as it expects.
The cases where you see the page stuck on "Processing Request..." means that the first AJAX request passed, but the second didn't.
In all these cases, you should reload the page with the form anew, and fill it back out. Pressing back and clicking Submit again won't do you any good.
