Are archetypes like classes in other MMOs? I don't like the idea of not being able to play a playstyle because I don't pay monthly :/ Does the unlocking costume parts mean unlocking things for character creation, or am I thinking about it wrong? I'm worried about not being able to make a decent looking character if I have to unlock parts first.
So if I wanna make a villain I have to pay?. Oh well no-one used to mind the big scary monster saving the schools during my champion days.
Yeah, what about the Villains side? I've always wanted to try the City games but had zero interest in paying. Its why I didn't start Champions Online until it became Free-to-Play. Then I played the shit out of that thing and now I have nothing left to do in that game because I've done it all. So could I create a robotic assassin gunslinger ninja thing if I wanted?

The game has amazing PVP and PVE, but PVP is a pain unless you've got your shit together. You could create a robotic assassin ninja that uses guns, but you couldn't go completely insane with it and have a robotic assassin ninja that shoot fire balls out of his forehead while also firing a rocket launcher and lazer beam nipples.
I remember liking the character creation in City of Heroes when I tried a trial.
Any ETA on when it actually goes live? I signed up for 1 month VIP and got the rewards for it. But I'd like my friends to come back. I got my villain base back on it's feet. It's been about 450 days since i played last. lol

I never do PvP in these kinds of games. I can deal with it in Spiral Knights because it was literally just Bomberman. But I don't do PvP in things like this, Champions, WoW, any of that.

It's probably very soon, I've been getting tons of emails about VIP and early access.
Wait, what?
Champions Online doesn't have a villains side, you're always the hero. His character was a monster though, which should have been a villain, but was being heroic.

While on the topic of Champions Online, I tried the free to play of it, and stopped playing when I discovered that most of the Archetypes don't have any self healing skills. Not even skills that do damage, and heal a small amount. The people that pay monthly or something get to make their own custom archetypes, so they can include healing, but F2P people are stuck with shit. How are the skills in CoH?

http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/game_info/archetypes/archetypes_overview.php http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/game_info/powers/powers_overview.php My favorite will have to be Mastermind. You summon minions to do all of your work, and most of your main powerset skills are based on buffing these minions.
I was going to try, but they removed the trial until Freedom is out :(
I was going to try, but they removed the trial until Freedom is out :(
Really? That's a little dumb. I guess it ensures no Free players can sneak in for the VIP head start.
Really? That's a little dumb. I guess it ensures no Free players can sneak in for the VIP head start.
It wouldn't matter unless they bought the game, because it would still be a trial account.
Oh, and by the way, any purchase of Paragon Points will make you a Premium Player. I'd say go for it.
My favorite will have to be Mastermind.
I'd like to note that you can't play Mastermind on a free account unless you buy it from the store, everything else but controller is available for free though.
My main and alt are Controller and Mastermind, will I be able to play them?
My main and alt are Controller and Mastermind, will I be able to play them?
Well I just logged onto my premium account and it wouldn't let me play my mastermind, so no you can't unless you buy the MM or controller classes from the shop. It's pretty damn stupid if you ask me. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] I was able to play my kin/wp scrapper though, so if you have a VIP power on a character you can play character without buying the power.
Wow, the amount of points to buy both of the archs is the same as two months of subscribing. What the hell?
Wow, the amount of points to buy both of the archs is the same as two months of subscribing. What the hell?
It is fucking retarded how much the arches cost, but if you want to play rather casually and not dedicated money to a subscription then it seems almost worth it. But you still should be able to play any toons your account had on it before the game went F2P. Not being able to play my old fire/kin without dropping 15 bucks on the game really fucking blows.
Wow, the amount of points to buy both of the archs is the same as two months of subscribing. What the hell?
At a certain reward level they will unlock for free.
Looks like it's up and ready to play. http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/freedom.php Will be giving it a whirl later on.
Sweet
is the create account button grayed out for anyone else
so i guess creating villains isn't included in the f2p and is vip exclusive unless bought?
so i guess creating villains isn't included in the f2p and is vip exclusive unless bought?
Are you making a statement or asking a question? I haven't checked and I'd be rather keen to know given that I have no interest in being a Hero.
alright so the base game freedom allows you to play as hero or villain, but you have to purchase "going rogue"
I spent ages deciding on a costume and power set, ended up going villain. Reached the island place and immediately remembered my horrible experiences with snake people in the sewers and quit. I think I'll stick to Champions. Free/ex-subscribing players aren't completely fucked over in that and I just... prefer how it plays I suppose.
Does this version allow you to create creature/monsters, I liked how champions when you made a creature it would move and attack like one yet in other games making a creature would always make it look like some guy walking around doing punches.
