You must've had a terrible fit, then. No way a sleipnir can cut through a proper PVP fit thorax in 3 volleys.

I can already tell your fit probably is bad. Also, PvP isn't something you learn by just doing practice fights to hull with a corpmate. You have to go out and actually find fights and lose ships to become any good at all.

Yeah, just pointing guns at eachother and duking it out doesn't really teach anything, other than who has the best damage / tank ratio.
Then you should say 7 or 8.
I'm flying a Catalyst at the moment, How long should I stick with it, or should I move up to a new ship as soon as possible? I want to be more capable in combat missions, but frankly I'm so damn new to all this I'm not sure what my pace should be.

You learn pvp by joining a good corp that often gets pvp fleets out.
A high sec mission corp is not one that does.
