I hope we can get people to become followers just by doing quests for them. No preset followers like in Fallout would be amazing. Say you help out the woodcutter then ask him to come with you, then give him an axe and armor.

I think I remember Todd saying at one point, probably in one of the E3 interviews, that they tested making it possible to have anyone in the world as your companion. I can't exactly remember why but he said it didn't work well. Someone else more knowledgeable can probably elaborate on this. I do agree though, I'd love the ability to have anyone in the world as my companion.

It is time for housebuilding.
One thing will suck about Skyrim though is that I simply won't spend the TLC on the game like I did with Morrowind and the likes.
Back when I was young, had no money and a bad PC, all I had was morrowind and some other games. I played the hell out of morrowind, modding it for all sorts of character archetypes, roleplaying at times, spending a lot of quality time with the game which ended up bringing out the best parts of what ES games can offer. Because when you have time, and nothing else to play, then what else are ya gonna do? It helped I was younger and a bit more imaginative (though I'd like to think I still have a good sense of imagination now).
With Skyrim though, I know the next cool game that comes out will be out within the next few months that I will want to buy (since I am now older and actually have income to afford games). I'll also be doing my college work, focusing on that for a good chunk of my free time, along with doing mapping for MWLL (ideally).
I'm also older and a bit more pragmatic in my mindset, though I tend to still have a bit of imagination here and there. It's just harder to lose yourself in it like I used to be able to do when I was younger.
I feel like I'll love Skyrim, but not be able to enjoy it to its full potentual like I did with Morrowind, especially since I can easily see myself buying the next big game a few months down the line, cutting my playtime short in some manner :(
