I think it's because it's a primarily melee focused game. Where as they're much more tolerable in Fallout 3 and especially so in New Vegas. Hopefully Skyrim will have New Vegas quality companions and storylines.
They are however useful for entertainment purposes. IE pushing them off of dive rock.

Right now, using a borrowed not-exactly-the-greatest-at-gaming computer for a limited amount of time I prefer playing Oblivion on consoles. If I had my own computer was super awesome then I would prefer the PC version. In the mean time, being a pure mage is fun.
Does anyone have any good environment enhancers for Oblivion? I am installing All Natural and I have QarlTP3 installed at the moment.

I've come to a crossroads, and I need to know which way I should go. OOO or MMMforFrans? FCOM is out of the question.
I gave up with FCOM too and tried OOO. I can't compare it to MMMforFrans as I've never tried it, but I can recommend OOO, it adds challenge to the game amongst other things, making it all round more enjoyable
