Some achievements can be really well done, like little rocket man for HL2EP2. A good achievement will push you to experience the game in a different way, and 'reward' you for doing so. It all depends on how much effort the developers put into it, like anything else. Sadly most achievements just turn into grind for 'x' to get 'y' and get an achievement, they're just tools to keep people playing the fucking games longer.
Well, considering that some achievements made a lot of people play TF2's demoman a melee class, like the achievement to cut off X heads.

Also, I don't like the fact that Skyrim will use the same lock picking mini-game as Fallout 3. I don't know Oblivion's just seemed realistic to me and that's how locks worked in the medieval ages, they didn't have keyholes did they? I'm just asking what Oblivion did wrong and I can adapt to the new lock picking mini-game.
I didnt like the oblibon locking picking game because it was side on. I think they mean fallout style, as in, you are looking as it as you woulld in real life. You will probably push/pull a rod instead of turning the lock, though.
If these dragons really are free entities as Bethesda says then I can see problems. Such as a dragon attacking a town you haven't been to and everyone there being dead. Sure it would be cool to stumble through a burning village but I just foresee issues/bugs coming from dragons being able to do what they want.

I agree. Quest masters/givers or NPCs involved in quests (especially mian story ones) being turned into a crispy kabab would be troublesome.
Or, first hour of the game, just gotten use to the controls, DRAGON COMES TO SAY SUP (with his fire breath).

They probably arent going to attack towns when you're not around.
I think by "free entities" they probably operate in a similar fashion to how the caravans work in F3 and New Vegas, or Maiq or the Black Horse Courier work in Oblivion.
Meaning, they have a position on the map at all times and they can move freely on that map, but they only really ever do anything when you're actually around them.
Dragon completely devours someone important ;
'Quest guy has been knocked unconscious'

Some encounters are scripted and some are dynamic.
Dragons will only attack towns when you are there, with a companion, and they will always be low-level dragons.
Basically, the game is set up so that a dragon won't attack the town unless you can handle it.

Even better.
I used the oepn cities component of Better Cities, and while it works very well with little performance loss, as well as adding a lot to the immersion, It conflicts with too many mods to be viable in the long run. Guess I'll revert to vanilla better cities.

Im half looking froward to essential characters, just so I can see a dragon pick them up and hurl them like he did to that one guard, have them fly a good 100 meters, slam against a wall or tumble into a ravine, then get up a short time later and brush themselves off.

I'm a bit worried that'll happen, and the essential character won't have a way out of the ravine.
Magicka did achievements best, not hard to get and they have funny names, all whimsical in nature
Achievement unlocked: Completed the tutorial!
Kinda ruins the meaning of the word achievement.

You lure the dragon to make the same and hope he hurls the questbitch out of the ravine
I loved how, when I first played, I was doing the main quest and after you get the emperor's son to follow you I just got my attention into some dungeon I found and since I was a noob on oblivion and was so curious to explore and on the dungeon there was lots of traps and he just kept running into the swinging blades and moving spike walls and getting hurled around while I got my ass beated by liches

Wait a second...
As far as I know, only the main quest givers are Essential, they could all be the Grey Beards for all we know of the plot.
The characters are clearly put in default poses before they are taken a picture of

May I enquire as to the origin of this image?

And then new objective pops out and you have to either kill the dragon and open his bowels or search it's lair for his poopy hole
So will we get to see the 1 hour demo they're showing at Gamescon?
I just thought. They have said you cant block with 2 swords because basically a button is attack or block, what about when you have say a sword and a spell?
I just thought. They have said you cant block with 2 swords because basically a button is attack or block, what about when you have say a sword and a spell?
You can't block then neither.

Block is for when you have a shield. So... Nope!
The real reason is that there is not enough buttons on a Gamepad and having something as exclusive as being able to block with 2 weapons on PC and not on Xbox/Playstation is just silly.
I just thought. They have said you cant block with 2 swords because basically a button is attack or block, what about when you have say a sword and a spell?
You most likely can't block then either. Spells would most likely be considered a weapon, therefore you can't block while using it. Blocking with a weapon most likely requires both hands, for stability. It's hard to block something if you're holding a blade with a single hand, as blades and axes tend to have a lot of weight
I don't really think that is a good excuse, you can still easily parry a blow when you're one-handed if you're skilled at swords fighting.
It's gonna be fun to try random stuff like dual-wielding two shields or two staffs and shit
It's gonna be fun to try random stuff like dual-wielding two shields or two staffs and shit
You can't dual wield two shields.
You can't dual wield two shields.
Why noooot? :(
Not sure if late, but am I the only one who notices in the trailer, that the Dragonborn's mouth is weirdish when he shouts FUS ROH DAH
also im still looking for the button that plays that and the music afterwards.
