Lore question: Why are the Elder Scrolls so important?
Lore question: Why are the Elder Scrolls so important?
They are scrolls that not only contain historic events but contain prophecies and other events of the future. It requires a person of some skill to read them, however, at the cost of losing their sight which in turn allows them to interpet the Scrolls even more professionally. All prophecies so far require a Hero. A Hero cannot exist without a prophecy (the player character). Once a prophecy is carried out it becomes fixed into the Elder Scrolls as an historic event. All the Elder Scrolls games have been prophecies foretold by the Elder Scrolls and carried out by a Hero (the player). In fact, all the Elder Scrolls games have been leading up to the finale in Skyrim; the return of the douchebag Alduin.
Does that mean Skyrim should really be the end of the series?
the Elder Scrolls are incredibly huge, and many of the prophecies are bullshit, but a few of them end up being true. Technically, they are as long as Bethesda chooses them to be, so no
the Elder Scrolls are incredibly huge, and many of the prophecies are bullshit, but a few of them end up being true. Technically, they are as long as Bethesda chooses them to be, so no
phew
Do the events of the previous games cause the return of Aludin or just that because they were part of the same prophecy (or something like that) then Aludin is back?
Do the events of the previous games cause the return of Aludin or just that because they were part of the same prophecy (or something like that) then Aludin is back?
I read an interview once where that's the case. The events of Arena affected the events in Daggerfall, which somehow affected what happened in Morrowind, which somehow affected what happened in Oblivion. I'll see if I can find it again

Spoiler-tagged this because people think it's not existent etc in the game You had to steal a scroll in Imperial City.[/sp] Is this one of them?

Spoiler-tagged this because people think it's not existent etc in the game You had to steal a scroll in Imperial City.[/sp] Is this one of them?
I laughed at you spoilering that. Anyway, yeah, it is. At least he called it an Elder Scroll, so I would think so.
Do the events of the previous games cause the return of Aludin or just that because they were part of the same prophecy (or something like that) then Aludin is back?
It was said that those events marked the return of Alduin
It was said that those events marked the return of Alduin
Though, that info came AFTER Skyrim was announced (At least that's when I heard them), so when TES VI is announced they may say the same. Like "the Return of Alduin marked the coming of the X and Y and satan and hell and redguards everywhere oh god"
I wonder if Alduin is Ulysses.

The return of Alduin is the finale for this particular 'story' arc of prophecies. There are countless prophecies and historical events foretold in the scrolls, it is an unknown amount actually. They are changed constantly based on prophecies that are fulfilled or not fulfilled.
Do the events of the previous games cause the return of Aludin or just that because they were part of the same prophecy (or something like that) then Aludin is back?
Technically, yes. Everything lead up to what will go down in Skyrim.
What was the prophecy carried out by the player in oblivion? the prophecy I saw was carried out by Martin not the player.
This prophecy explained that the Gates of OBlivion would be opened and someone would close them. It did not specify whom but the purpose of the player in Oblivion was to aid Martin in fulfilling the prophecy instead of fulfilling it themselves.
I wonder if Alduin is Ulysses.
Some people say that Akatosh IS Alduin though it is said he is the Nordic 'variation' of Akatosh. Akatosh is the Dragon God of Time so since he 'began' things as Akatosh, he might take on the form of Alduin to 'end' things (Atleast when it comes to the Aedra. I don't think Akatosh is the God of Gods, though he was one of the first to form).
Okay, I may be late as shit because I just woke up and read the last few pages, but I already explained this whole deal about the games leading up to this one in a previous post. It doesn't mean the games are going to end, or that the Alduin prophecy is the end all be all...
The prophecies told in The Elder Scrolls do not end at the return of Alduin. What they mean when they say, "The other games led up to the events in Skyrim..." is that in the games, you played through the events leading to the fulfillment of the return of Alduin prophecy. The shattering of the the Staff of Chaos - Arena The return of Numidium - Daggerfall The Nerevarine's fight at Red Mountain - Morrowind The opening of the Oblivion gates - Oblivion And finally the return of Alduin - Skyrim That's not to say the prophecy won't be broken in this installment. (Which it will be otherwise the world would be destroyed) And even so, there are almost infinite more prophecies to be told by The Elder Scrolls.
