This decision is a bit :pwn: to me. Guess they want to avoid the gender-based shitstorm that M&B got for making the game diverse and interesting. Next up, all races are equal because we dont want to imply that the only black people in the game are fast runners
and yet only black people in the game have adrenaline rush that makes them stronger [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] lolz
and yet only black people in the game have adrenaline rush that makes them stronger [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] lolz
they drink cliffracer blood
Maybe they think that stat-wise the differences would just be overcome quickly so any impact on gameplay would be so imunte it's just not worth it.
That'd be true. Unfortunately thats another example of idiotic game development. Rather that fixing or improving the system that is flawed, they just remove the system and dumb down whats left of it. My hope was that they'd implement permanent skill/attributes multipliers, instead of one-time bonuses. IE certain races would move faster, certain races would be stronger regardless of skills or even attributes, specific genders could get str penalties and agl multipliers, and visa versa. So if a Nord was at 100 Two Handed skill, and a Wood Elf was at 100 Two Handed skill, the Nord would still do a bit more damage because he's inherently bigger and stronger and will always be bigger and stronger than the wood elf, regardless of skill and attributes.
They did something similar in Baldur's Gate, in which Females suffered from a Str penalty, males suffering from no penalty at all. Which was kinda balls, really, but hell. A female warrior can still kick your ass with a good axe so :v:
I don't recall Baldur's Gate doing that. In fact, it said in gender section that it was "an atheistic choice and would not affect your attributes in any fashion."
In Morrowind didn't female characters get magic related stat bonuses while males got strength related bonuses?
In Morrowind didn't female characters get magic related stat bonuses while males got strength related bonuses?
In Morrowind and Oblivion women had attribute modifers that made them favour magic and men had modifers that favoured combat.
In Morrowind and Oblivion women had attribute modifers that made them favour magic and men had modifers that favoured combat.
So pretty much exactly what he said then?
So pretty much exactly what he said then?
Added the part about Oblivion.
Great, now Bethesda is sacrificing depth for equality. Mount and Blade was pretty fun to play as a female character because it's harder to get up on your feet. Becoming a lord is a bit harder and some inherently dislike you because of your sex. More challenge makes a game fun.
Am I the only one this *doesn't* affect, this whole male/female equality whatever? In fact, I kind of like the idea of both genders being a sort of "tabula rasa", from which we can sculpt whatever character we decide. Then again, I was going to play as a male Nord anyway. This doesn't change that.
Of course, that argument only works on purely Third Person games.
people will use the argument regardless, given they still look at their equipping screen and the like, and then there's the issue of modders who switch to 3rd person. even if not, people will do it, and people will bitch. No pleasing anyone.
Words cannot describe how hard my dick is this for this game.
Am I the only one that doesn't mind playing a male character because I can resist looking at simulated arse? And I like playing as a male character because I am male and have no urge to role play as a female? The only exception to this are the KOTOR games where the camera LITERALLY orbits their ass, but then you can just put a female in the party and switch to them (and thus have a male character). [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] Like when I played APB I made a male character and I met up with my friends who had been playing it for awhile, and they were all female characters (despite all of them being males irl). It seems like gamers need to prove they have a case of the not gays
I like using females in some 3rd person games because they are at least something pleasant to look at for hours on end.
~the mods have spoken and won't take girly stats for an answer~ but seriously the whole system of making girls... girly is a neat concept in adding challenge. In that game you mentioned, was it outright stated that choosing a girl is like hard mode, or is it just something you find out the hard way?
It's a medieval-fantasy world. Approach it from realistic medieval angle - women have no rights. Men in towns will speak to you like the dirt you are and attempt to rape you. You are good for nothing but washing clothes and keeping the children out of the lumber mill, stats-wise. ~female realism mods~

I lost interest in the character and everything related to her in about an hour. It's not that I dislike women in gaming or anything ridiculous like that, I just prefer to roll a character that is the same sex as I am. In adventure games where there is a set character with a set background (Alice: Madness Returns) I couldn't care less, because it's an established character. But when i'm creating the characters story and background I prefer that the character be male, just feels more comfortable.
I once thought playing with a female would be stupid and kinda faggish. But I tried it and it stuck with me, now I roll female in every game that allows me to do so.

I hate being a female in RPGs. Oddly enough being a chick in old school shooters is awesome. (probably because they always get laser guns and other crazy shit)
Can't wait to marry someone and then kill them. And then do it again. And again.
Can't wait to marry someone, pump out 20 kids, and then kill them again, and again, and again, and- Oh fuck, why won't they die? Oh god, they picked up the axe! No little Tommy don't do it!

I like to play female characters when I'm given the choice. I mean 90% of the time you're made to play a guy so why not mix it up? The one thing I've noticed though is that when you do play a female character as a guy EVERYONE assumes you're gay. Or more accurately "WTF, ur playin a gurl, wut r u a fag?" It's rather annoying.
An army of baby dragonborns. Their shouts will crack the earth in twain.
Oh gods, little kids cry. A LOT. This means apocalyptic shit given the power their voice contains. I can imagine a baby dragonborn's crib made of enchanted iron and daedric stuff.
Always playing a dude gets boring after so many years.
You should have acted. The Nexus is already here. The people told of their return. The new engine, was merely a delay. Of the time after Oblivion was modded. When the people of Skyrim would be modded. But noone wanted to believe. Believe it could happen. But when the truth finally dawns. It dawns in MODS! But. There is one they fear. In their tongue, it is IDK IDK2!
So, there you have it. My Nexus-inspired cover of the Skyrim theme. Everything in BOLD means I'm not sure, but you guys can suggest other improvements as well. If we/I can actually finish it, I will sing it (hopefully we can do a FP Singing collab, like 4chan did) and put it on YouTube. And maybe I'll do a Fresh Nerevarine of Seyda Neen.
