I haven't gotten to the point where load-order matters yet. I'm still trying to follow FCOM's installation instructions.
First you have to download this version of that mod, but only grab THESE files and NONE OF THE OTHERS and then you get another version of that mod and grab DIFFERENT files and put them aside for now, then grab the latest version of a different mod, bring over all the files, and overwrite if it asks you to, now bring the files you set aside back over and overwrite THOSE files, and then delete all the following files and then download another version, and bla bla bla bla bla
It just keeps going on and on and on. Why can't they just have a single friggen mod package? "This is FCOM, it has everything you need to use FCOM. Enjoy."
My feelings exactly.

The issue is that the maker of FCOM can't compile them due to the lack of a fileserver that would handle the bandwidth cost of people downloading a 1.5GB file from him, and the mod makers getting buttsore about him re-uploading their mods.
Well, at 68 hours, 11 minutes, and 48 seconds, my time in Oblivion has yet again come to a close.
I'mma gonna play some Morrowind now! I've never been able to beat the main quest. I keep getting distracted by other games that for some reason I'm playing at the same time. Well, I won't be distracted THIS time!

I also hope that NPC's react to stuff being stolen from their house instead of strolling out without a care in the world and asking you in for a cup of tea.
Of all games out there, why can't just Skyrim leak :v:
Of course I'd buy it anyway, but that would be faster :v:

gonna pre-order when the specs come out for it.
Or not, but hopefully yes
If my laptop :rainbow: can't run it, I'll buy it for ps3.
Just wondering, is the sky supposed to tile if you've got Physically Correct Sky installed?

Probably not. Ask the obge thread on the forums though, they'd know better.
Every morning I wake up thinking it will be a great day and I will be productive and accomplish things.
Then I remember Skyrim isn't out, and I go all day crying in my bedroom screaming at people through my window about how traumatized I am.
I always wondered why I could just bust into someone's house, walk into their bedroom, and start talking to them whenever I felt like. Kind of ruins immersion and makes the NPCs look stupid. I hope I have to knock on the door to someone's house and be let in or run into them while on the job or where ever outside.

There's a line between immersiveness and gameplay. Having no hud at all and dying from a single hit is immersive, but is it fun? No. Sometimes you need to be a little unrealistic to keep the game fun. Even ARMA II isn't as realistic as it could be. It has a crosshair, a spotting system, AI that can spot targets from a kilometer away, infinite stamina etc. It would be pretty boring if you had to constantly rest after running for a short while, and if your squad leader gave you an order to target a man you can't see.
Well, I finally got everything installed, but somewhere along the line I installed something that translated all books and weapon descriptions to German. I think it might be easier to just learn German than to go back through all of that shit again and find out where I messed up.

Disable Oblivion_Warcry.esp and use the Oblivion_Warcry EV.esp
Enjoy!

After removing all my mods except MMM, Oblivion still crashes on fast travel. So I disable MMM.
It crashes on fast travel, fuck you Oblivion
Just wondering, is the sky supposed to tile if you've got Physically Correct Sky installed?
What's Physically Correct Sky and where is a link to it?
Nevermind, it was in the OBGE downloads.
It means you won't be able to turn on DX11. I don't think there's any game on the market today that explicitly requires DX11, and there's like maybe two or three that require DX10. Since it's loosely based on the same engine they used for Oblivion/Fallout 3 and made to work on xbox hardware, I imagine if you could run those games you should be able to run this.
Also, as I recall there's no actual DX11 effects in the game and it's essentially just there for modders to make use of.
They've confirmed "baked" tessellation actually in a podcast or something, all that means is they'll use premade textures for tessellation or something
Fuck me, all that and it's still broken. Crashed as soon as I got out of the sewers. Forget it. I've been trying to figure this crap out all day, it's not worth it.

Uninstall all mods, install them one by one till it crashes then you'll know what's causing the problem?

I've been installing and uninstalling the game and the mods for almost five hours. It's impossibly convoluted. So, fuck it. I'll just have to strip out everything and play Vanilla.

What mods are you using, if you don't mind listing them

I'm just trying to get FCOM to work, and it relies on Martigen's Monster Mod, Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul, WarCry, Francisco's, and some other stuff that I can't immediately remember. I'm reinstalling Oblivion for the third time today now, so it'll be about two hours before I'll have a fresh install to fuck up.
I'm just going to save a backup up the game this time, so when I totally mess everything up I don't have to completely reinstall it again.

http://www.demonoid.me/files/details/2680252/12336734/
it's basically FCOM + other good mods and the installation is easier than FCOM and it's more stable if you set it up right

it is pretty depressing though what oblivion modding has turned into, you'd think somewhere along the line someone would think "there must be a better way to do this" instead of all the user unfriendly wyre bash crap.

Unfortunately, I can't see what all's in it or how to use it. The documentation was apparently taken down due to some sort of TOS violation. I'll figure this out eventually, but I'm done for tonight. Wasted way too much time on this mess.

I actually enjoy vanilla Oblivion over heavily modded Oblivion. The only mods worth it all, in my humble opinion of course, are environment mods. Assuming you do them right, they make Cyrodiil look fucking amazing.

Looks like it's the perfect time to start playing Morrowind again. Even if you'll overshoot by 6 months.
