Going back and replaying oblivion. Can't wait for this.
Wow, if you think graphics are extremely important, you must not have played many RPGs.
so immersive....
After checking his Twitter (I check it almost every day now) I saw nothing implying the PC version and console version will be nearly identical. I know there won't be a HUGE difference but the textures will hopefully be a lot better in Skyrim's PC version. Oh, and fader distances and LODs. Oh, and FPS rates.
I hope your right... I only posted that article because it's more recent then the nerdtrek one.
Or at least I think it is, I just saw it on the N4G twitter feed when I posted.

Oblivion and Morrowind both had pretty good graphics for their time, good enough for me to find some immersion in them in my own head, only because there was only so much more that they could do at that time.
It's 2011 now, if it doesn't have good graphics it's not going to be immersive at all for me.
This and the first comment aren't supposed to contradict each other, maybe I didn't word this right, but I'm extremely tired, try to make some sense out of it, even if you don't agree.
what's up with you guys and assuming that your choice of platform is intrinsically better than everybody else's
Technically mods make the PC version better by the mere fact you can change the game thus expand its lifetime.
If there are mods on the xbox (which I doubt) and on the ps3 (why not after all), then all the versions will be equal.

lol you're like a spoiled little baby
'if it dusent have good graphics its bad game'
look at Fallout:NV. It's hardly up to par, but hell, one of my favorite RPGs to date.

So if you were to play morrowind or Oblivion now, you wouldn't be at all immersed because the graphics are not good by todays standards?
It's silly, an RPG should immerse you with it's story and gameplay, good graphics are nice but that's one of the least important things with these type of games.

lol you're an idiot.
I didn't say that AT ALL, and Fallout:NV is a GREAT looking game when you hook it up with graphics enhancement mods.

Vanilla, yes.
Oblivion with the graphics mods is still pretty immersive for me though.
This is all a personal matter, I'm not trying to speak for anyone else.

I am just hoping the frame rate is okay on the 360. I was going to go for PC, which is probably the best system to run it on. But it just depends on your system specs and id rather not risk 30 pounds on something i may not be able to run.
By the way, your post count went from 200 and something to 500 in just a day. Wow you must post a hell of a lot.
For what it's worth I think Oblivion is a really ugly/generic looking game, at least aesthetically.
i don't like how much bethesda is desaturating the colors
Already did, no console game can look fucking amazing.
Console hardware simply isn't capable of producing amazing graphics.
Then your standards are way too fucking high. I mean, if you can look at all those screenshots and gameplay videos of Skyrim and NOT say to yourself "Wow, I never knew an Xbox game could look so goddamn beautiful", you are a graphics whore of the worst degree.
I liked the very stereotyped fantasy setting of Oblivion, it was kinda cheesy but to be honest that's what made its charm to me. It was simple and colorful.
This is why I don't like the appearance of Vanilla Fallout 3 - it's too gray and brown with a green overlay on top of it.
Thankfully a desert mod allowed me to gave some color to the world.

To be honest I'm quite damned impressed how this generations' consoles still hold up after 6 years of existence
i don't like how much bethesda is desaturating the colors
but it's ~so realistic and intense~
like in Fable 3, it's so close to black and white it's insane
I don't want to sound like a fanboy here but the PC version is going to be a straight upgrade compared to the other console versions. Much like with every other Bethesda game.
not really, the graphics will be the same apart from higher resolutions/AA
not that that matters
i don't like how much bethesda is desaturating the colors
Somewhat agree with this. I feel like the environments outside are looking kind of flat in some of the more open areas, from some of the gameplay videos posted (Not in actual geography, but because of lighting and color choices). Though I kind of expected this from playing previous Bethesda games, like Fallout, since it's hard to make everything in a massive world look wonderful.
The interiors look fantastic though, with their dynamic lighting and bursts of color in certain areas that make them really look alive, as well as intricate design and textures/effects.
This is still a Bethesda game. It's massive and immersive. It's not going to look perfect on consoles or PC, partially because it's so huge. But it will probably look great in comparison to anything like it.

It makes sense given the winter environments. It reminds me a lot of Game of Thrones, visually.
Consoles may see some Bethesda endorsed PC mods.
Consoles may see some mods.
Consoles mods.
I am skeptic.
At best, one or two mods will make it to the consoles, and those mods will be of such good quality the makers will get hired by Bethesda.
Still no breast enlargment mods for consoles. Perverts saddened everywhere.
I want the PC version for mods. Maybe there'll be one for sped up arrows (just in-case they lazily stroll through the air like in Oblivion.)

the main problem that they don't seem to have fixed in skyrim is that the LOD buildings don't cast shadows, making the distant land look like someone turned on fiullbright
not related to oblivion, but remember that mod list that something awful did?
people on the nexus forums are actually REQUESTING links to some of the mods in there.

I really want to know what kind of power I'll be needing to max out skyrim. I've got $180 waiting to buy a new graphics card already

I dont know, MGE XE doesn't make morrowind a better game obviously, but the stunning visual sure suck you in.

And that's exactly what I'm talking about.
I'm not saying bad graphics make the game bad, even in an RPG.
I'm simply saying that it's not the same when the graphics aren't good enough to suck you in.
I'll get Skyrim either way, since it does look like a fantastic game, I just really hope they don't make the PC version look exactly like the consoles, since I do want to get sucked in.
