And both can store data for possibly over 100 years, which is superb compared to USBs that can only store it for 4-7 years (IIRC) before it gets broken/corrupted/lost and gone forever.

Your need to correct people on a rather minor point is also annoying. CD can be used in a more general sense for any kind of disc. And even if that wasn't the case you still obviously knew what he meant.

The reason he told you to get off your high horse is that you're being incredibly pedantic. Just let it go. It's like how people call a folder with 16 songs in it an album. Technically it's not an album in any sense of the word but it's acceptable to call it that because the technical definition of an album isn't important.
