The elder scrolls were used to record the prophecies that occur in the games, the entire series is recorded in them

How do you think Uriel knows about the invasion of Cyrodiil by Mehrunes Dagon? How about the return of Alduin the World Eater? The Elder Scrolls play a huge part in the plot of every Elder Scrolls game.

Does any actually read the part of the Elder Scrolls about the events of a particular game during that game? Seems like that woukd be a useful thing to do... I that sense they are pretty superflous.
