wow Bethesda were Merciless back in the day. Just started daggerfall and already in the TUTORIAL dungeon is an enemy not effected by your weapons. What the christ.

There's an archer or thief somewhere that drops a weapon that damages it though

Or you can do like I did and walk right past it.

Just run through the tutorial dungeon.
You need to get into that main large chamber, go up the stairs to the throne and pull the level, go up the tunnel a few stories until you reach a door on your right, go into that door and there's a room with a few tombs in it or something, and theres a 2D exit to the dungeon on one of the walls. Sorry for the vague instructions but all the dungeons in daggerfall are massive identical-looking mazes.
Come to think of it, with that said it's a good idea to leave a trail of breadcrumbs, or at least have a separate save for the start of each dungeon, because every single one is horribly treacherous, deeply confusing and fucking immense and it's very very easy to get irreversibly trapped in some of them.
Speaking of THAT, when you go to the King of Worm's main hideout, you'll be confronted with about 5 tombs against the walls... do not go into the tomb at the end of the room facing the entrance.. you'll get trapped forever unless you can levitate. The correct tomb is the first one on the left. I lost a character to that evil trickery :[

Not indefinitely. The loot is random. Ive done a few runthroughs, some times you get epic loot in the first dungeon, sometimes you're fuck and just need to run past enemies.
Yeah, Daggerfall suffers from an insane lack of item leveling. (Might be a favorable thing, but compared to Morrowind or Oblivion it's fucking crazy...)
I found this shirt that bumped me up about 40 levels on my agility. I am at 100 now. :v:
Also I got sandals that bumped my speed up to 96.
[editline]2nd October 2011[/editline]
It's amazing when you have that kind of speed because you can swing your weapon like a mad motherfucker and coupled with my high agility, you're nigh unbeatable against melee opponents.
Items do level in Daggerfall.. it's somewhere between Morrowind (which has almost none) and Oblivion (which has too much)
The high level loot (daedric, ebony, etc) wont appear until you are about level 13.. but the early stuff like iron, steel, elven, dwarven, mithril, those appear from the start (but can still be hard to find) even though some items have the ability to appear, they still wont most of the time, even at a high level.. it just gives them a *chance* of appearing.
Though sometimes you just get lucky and find really crazy enchanted shit.... or an elven claymore on the first thief you kill

Oh, ok. Yeah, the only things I have yet to come across are daedric and ebony things.
Ebony is from shivering isles iirc.
Ebony is from shivering isles iirc.
You're thinking of Amber and Madness Ore
Ebony is from shivering isles iirc.
Ebony is special volcanic glass from Vvardenfell and parts of Solstheim, after the destruction of most of Vvardenfell and the conquest of Morrowind by the Argonians, Ebony/Daedric armor will probably be quite rare.

incoming lore discussion :siren:
I dont see why it would be, the way I see it red mountain probably would have shat out huge volumes of glass and ebony since it's massive eruption. That is where it comes from after all.
I'm just pissed that Ebony armor takes so much effort to get in Oblivion
I've murdered 35 people while stealing Ebony gloves and such from fucking castles for gods sake
Its because the gods are constantly watching you in oblivion, and only 50 days into your quest do they deem you worthy of even seeing ebony armor.
I've never even assembled a full set of ebony armor
you guys suck hard at oblivion. you can get a great sword and a full set of special ebony armour by killing Umbra in vindasel.
I've never even assembled a full set of ebony armor
Rigmor in Roxey Inn at level 16.
Problem solved.
You're thinking of Amber and Madness Ore
Oh you're right.

Umbra is a hard as shit boss to kill (legitimately, no glitching or exploiting)
And if you're level is low when you kill her her armor will actually be worse than real ebony
Umbra is a hard as shit boss to kill (legitimately, no glitching or exploiting)
mehrunes razor can kill umbra in one hit
mehrunes razor can kill umbra in one hit
So can half the weapons on the nexus

The stats of Umbra's armor are equal to orcish armor unless you are past level 18
I guess if you only care about the appearance then yep, but its not as good as ebony armor up until you can get ebony armor anyways.
Umbra is a hard as shit boss to kill (legitimately, no glitching or exploiting)
If you're a mage you can vaporize her with a really OP combination spell
So can half the weapons on the nexus
well you know if you're gonna go the nexus route just summon the tentacle sex demon to kill umbra.
Or just use your hoard of shojo race companions to distract her while you run her over with your motorcycle
So I dled daggerfall and made the mistake of giving my character the special disadvantage 'unable to use long blades'
time to go punch my way through the first dungeon
best way to kill umbra is being an argonian and jumping around the poison gas area. she'll take damage but you woooon't~
I remember that at level 2 or something, I lured Umbra to the IC and the guards in elven gardens ended up killing her. :v:

Needless to say, I was very overpowered at that point.
Oblivion Ebony armor looks fairly cool up until the moment you put on the helmet, then it just becomes hilarious.

That's how most of the armors in Oblivion were. Cool looking until you put on the helmet. Hell, Daedric Armor in general just looked ridiculous, in an "Obviously trying to emulate Sauron's armor from the LOTR movies" way. Morrowind Daedric Armor looked badass, though.
