seriously I have no idea why people assume this game will be demanding
Isn't that MMO Rift on Gamebryo too?
Yup.

Generally speaking, any sort of console port runs worse than it should
But still yeah it shouldn't be demanding at all
Isn't that MMO Rift on Gamebryo too? That game looks pretty good and has nice animations too.

Yes, thats a good point.
These engines on the market all have hdr lighting, bloom, normal and specular maps; and many of them have both baked lighting, world shadows, and or light bounce and soft indirect lighting all built into them. That's the primary cosmetic similarities they share. The way a game looks is based 20% on the game engine, and 80% on what the artists put into the game engine. The same people who worked on Fallout 3 and Oblivion are working on Skyrim, and they are likely using the same design techniques they were doing before. If you're looking for visual similarities (in any game, or any engine for that matter) you're going to find them. Thats no place to draw the conclusion that the engine is exactly the same as it was in Fallout 3 and Oblivion, especially when the developers have time and time again said the exact opposite. If you dont like how they texture their models, well then that's a gripe to take up with the artists, and that's a gripe that will probably be fixed by more talented artists. Or likewise artists that aren't trying to meet a consolitis texture resolution cap.
Fuck, if they had made Skyrim on the Cryengine 2 and not told anybody, you would still have troves of people going "looks like a modified gamebryo!" Because their minds are drawing links where there are none.

I didn't get it expecting it to be demanding.
I needed an upgrade, i have the money lying around and with all the games coming out i figured that i might as well. I said for this game because it's the only game i really want that is coming out in a month.
Plus i got two free copies of Arkham City.
Come to think of it, I wouldn't mind seeing Skyrim on CryEngine 3...

Counting down the days until I am reborn into the video game world... It's a painful experience.
Do you guys think the midnight release will be est or pst? On steam that is.
I cannot figure out why I haven't preordered it yet. I know I'm going to get it day one. I think I'm just so used to not spending money (broke college student) that the thought of buying a game at full price frightens me.
I luckily have the day off from school the day Skyrim comes out, i still need to get my preorder in too. I just want to know what stores will have midnight releases but they won't release that info until like a week before release.
Do you guys think the midnight release will be est or pst?
I'm picking it up in-store so I get it 12:00AM Central Time.
Does that help you? No. No it does not.
Normally I would just do this on steam... but I kinda want to have the box and what-not in my possession.

I meant on steam if that wasn't obvious.

Same here. I'm a bit short on cash so I'm reluctant to buy it, but I have to.
I really wish there was a discount for pre-ordering. I mean, how awesome of a deal is it for a developer to get paid before customers even have their product?

They know that they're going to get those sales anyway, so why not just sell it at full price and make even more.
I don't want the collector's edition, all I want is a special addition that will have the soundtrack. Maybe they all will have that.
Ok, I thought of something. What if we could poison a sword with Skooma, stab somebody with it, and watch them get high? Their slashes gradually get slower and less accurate, their eyes get unfocused, possibly they start breathing rapidly and sweating.
[editline]e[/editline]
Except Skooma is more like meth, isn't it? So it would probably give them a boost.

If you're getting it on the PC then odds are that you could just go into your games data directory and snatch the music mp3's from there, that's how it worked in Morrowind, Oblivon, Fallout 3 and New Vegas anyway.
Hopefully Steam will let us preorderers preload.
Hopefully Steam will let us preorderers preload.
Most Major releases do.
Hopefully Steam will let us preorderers preload.
That's probably a Bethesda decision, not Steam / Valve.
Amazon better get my package to me on the 11th :/
Im just going to place a preorder at EB (aka gamestop) I assume they have a billion copies and will have them released on time, unless they've overstocked their shelves with Modern Warfare 3
If I get my game late, Im just going to go into FP isolation so I dont see anything that would begin to spoil the game for me.
Recently, steam store updates and releases have been at 10:00am PST.
The only reason I'm preordering anywhere is for that sexy cloth map.
My friend gave me a Steam preorder of Skyrim, really ecstatic right now.
I'm being the rich bastard and buying the overpriced Collectors Edition.
I want that damn statue.
I'm also splurging on the collectors edition even though I don't think it's worth it.
I figured, it's The Elder Scrolls so what the hell.
I wish the collectors edition just came in an etched (or at least pressed) steel case or something. I would have paid top dollar for that :[
I've got that!

Kind of.
Also thanks for the background Inspector Jones
We use the EXACT same countdown clock, but I edited mine to say "The Truth Dawns In Fire!"

actually it was confirmed by todd howard that there'll be dx11 features, including pre baked tesselation maps or something (displacement maps etc)
(not entirely sure about this, but I remember it was mentioned in some article about it or might have been a podcast, sure some one else will back me up here)

EB Games "exclusive" pre order edition has a steel case for the game I believe

It all comes down to optimization. Oblivion was so terribly optimized that I couldn't even max it out until my most recent system, and that's not even factoring in mods.
