who the hell actually chooses a race to go with their play style?
people who wanna get the most out of a character. you can't pretend as if the racial bonuses don't affect your character because they really do. i've played oblivion for an amazingly long time since i bought it at launch so trust me i know my shit.
I'm not so sure about this game, I couldn't get into Oblivion because of all the boring quests, boring combat, shitty voice acting, everybody looking hideously ugly, etc. Will I like this game? Or should I not bother?
Nope, it's far too awesome for the likes of you. So no. Don't bother. Me and my fellow Dovahkin are going to tear shit up with our manly as fuck beards, while you go do something else.

No they really don't. You get a boost from the beginning but by the time you max everything out, you have the exact same character no matter the race.
And don't even talk to me as though you're the almighty expert because you've played Oblivion for a while. I have been around since nearly the beginning, and I have played all TES games "for an amazingly long time"
I know my shit about The Elder Scrolls.
No they really don't. You get a boost from the beginning but by the time you max everything out, you have the exact same character no matter the race.

yeah but the time that you max something out is important. if you play a character badly with the wrong stats you'll end up with a very ineffective character.
for instance, having alchemy as a major stat is a pretty bad idea because with heavy use you'll level up very quickly which means all the monsters around you get more difficult while your stats remain the same which is bad.
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about do you.
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about do you.
you're getting pretty rude over nothing. it's not very important to play the game with that mindset around character creation but it's still a part of the game. it just makes oblivion a deeper game than it appears to be.
No, if you want to choose a race that fits your class for roleplaying purposes so be it, but this whole situation where you think being a certain class is more effective with a certain race is completely misinformed.
Take this... An Orc starts with a strength modifier of 45, whereas a wood elf starts with 30. So sure, it will take just a bit longer to get the wood elf's strength to 100 than it will with the Orc but when you do, they will both do the exact same damage and both be effective warriors.
Same concept applies for the skills, one race may start with a higher score on the skill but by the time it's maxed the effect is exactly the same for all races.
The fact of the matter is, one may take longer to level but they are both just as effective, and seeing as play time is one of the larger factors that the fans of this series enjoy I don't think taking ever so slightly longer to level (almost unnoticeably longer I might add) is really an issue.
Not to mention these attributes are no longer even a factor in Skyrim, and your skills level as you use them. You are making the character and class system much much more difficult than it really is.
Okay, late as shit because I've been sleeping all day but to add to the race conversation from last page, who the hell actually chooses a race to go with their play style? All racial bonuses to starting attributes and skills are trivial at best, like instead of 10 you may get 15. Shit does not matter at all. Making a stealthy orc is just as easy as making a warrior wood elf. You might as well just start with the one you like most.
I'm not a Big "Role Player" when I play games like this, but that's where I see them coming from with picking a race. It adds more to the game if you're race looks like it would actually be the kind of ccharacter you play.
Lets just hope combining a cheese wedge and an entire thing of cheese doesn't end up giving me +5 fire resistance.
You are making the character and class system much much more difficult than it really is.
But it is true that it's totally broken and you can easily over or under level.

Ok fanboy, whatever you say. I just hope this game improves on Oblivion and makes the game actually more fun and less of chore.
ready for boxes mang.

no i think you're taking me a bit harder on what i'm saying. i'm not really making it an issue, i'm just saying it is a part of the game. ignoring it is totally fine and with skyrim having completely no class creation it'll be even more natural.
today at my highschool it was hat day and a kid had a dragon born helmet from skyrim

Best quest.
I decided to try and grow a beard for Skyrim. Apparently my facial hair is naturally curly.

As much as I'd love to grow a beard, I simply can't stand the itching. Does it get better with time?
I have never managed to find that painting quest.

Yeah, sometimes I forget that it's there. I barely feel it at all anymore.
would be cool if when you are drawing your arrow back with a bow, using your other hand you could enchant the arrow (shock, frost, fire whatever)

Nice drawing.
Pretty sure you wont be able to do that though because that's what enchanting you bow/arrows does, doesn't it?
