So there are no good close combat mods for Oblivion?
deadly reflex and unnecessary violence change the combat a lot, but they're really unpolished and wonky
try duke patrick's melee combat mod with the mod 'a bobbing motion', it's close to the original game but it makes weapons feel so much more powerful, also the head bob in the mod I recommend isn't shit like the headbob in deadly reflex
I haven't been following Skyrim at all, so please don't hate me for asking: did Bethesda talk about the mod tools yet? I mean, Skyrim's getting them, right? Right?
No, they banished them after all the porn mods.

no, there won't be mod tools, bethesda say that the new engine doesn't support them and it would undermine their plans for future DLC
[editline]19th October 2011[/editline]
just kidding, bethesda are trying to get them available on release day
It's possibly just my rampant fanboyism, but say what you will about Morrowind's combat system, when you finally hit someone, you fucking know you hit someone. Huge blood splatter, enemy staggers back, really gory fleshy hit sound, massive health loss.
When I see my blade hit an enemy in the face I hit him in the fucking face. Dice rolls don't work whenmixed with real time combat.
cue 5 pages of speculation on what the mug is made of
plastic? ceramic?
for the love of god someone tell me
Attacks having a strong chance to miss regardless of hitting the enemy is what put me off Morrowind. The dice-rolls should've been for critical hits at best (although a system that has critical hits defined by hitting a specific weakpoint would make a bit more sense); nothing frustrates us more than an attack blatantly hitting the enemy and doing nothing.
Anyone know a mod that fixes that?

It will be made out of a material similar to ceramic, but is actually plastic. Like the "cloth" map that you may or may not accidentally get soaked in coffee from your mug.

Bah. Paying that much for just a mug is absurd. I can find better mugs for cheaper in a normal mug store.

I disagree, I personally think hit=hit combat makes combat depend less on one's skills and more on "whose sword is the biggest". Of course, I can understand why many would prefer a more concrete real-time combat experience, but I guess I'm just an old-schooler when it comes to role-playing :v:

As for a mod that "fixes" the Morrowind combat:

Haha this is brilliant.

I’m about to investigate when a halfnaked man runs up to me and gets my attention. “Here, hold on to this for me! I can’t keep it, but I’ll be back for it later.”
Since the item in question is a Battleaxe of Souls, I accept. Before the guy can even run off, a hunter appears.
“Have you seen a thief anywhere?”
I look round at the thief, then back to the hunter, and consider the axe in my inventory. “… no.”

How is it more skillful to have a diceroll determine when you hit? Or do you mean skill points because skill points should determine your skill not whether you physically touching someone 'counts' or not.

I want more random encounters like this
Guys answer me something.
The engine's name is GAMEBRYO right?
It even says so on the logo:

Then why the fuck people keep calling it gameBYRO?
It pisses me off, makes me want to grow a beard on my chest. I rest my case.
I thought it was pronounced "game bree oh"

Who calls it that? You pronounce it like embryo. You don't see everyone calling those EmBEEos do you?
Who calls it that? You pronounce it like embryo. You don't see everyone calling those EmBEEos do you?
I always pronounced it Gamebro.

lol brazil
Take this post as an example:
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?p=32829283#post32829283
Guy keeps calling it gamebyro, I've seen a lot of people calling it that.
Gamebryo IS meant to be pronounced "game bree oh", but people keep miswriting it.
I sometimes make that typo because I think of a biro pen, and get the name stuck in my head as game br-eye-oh rather than bree-oh
lol brazil
your point being?
I might be a Skyrim nord, but I'm also very fond of these Brazilians.
and the byro thing, its probably because he didn't know the engine name and read it somewhere around here, but the one he saw was a typo, and maybe he thought it was the right way.
[editline]19th October 2011[/editline]
oh, so I'm off to my pilgrimage for learning about the entire elder scrolls lore, because apparently I'm innept for this title.
back in, like, 22 Days.
I just call it the "exploding items engine"
So, what did they say about transportation again? Fast travel is out but you can use rickshaws or something?
How is it more skillful to have a diceroll determine when you hit? Or do you mean skill points because skill points should determine your skill not whether you physically touching someone 'counts' or not.
Then what else could skill points "realistically" determine? Because how well I can swing a sword doesn't change how sharp it is, and how hard it hits is defined more by my strength than by my skill with a blade.
Fast travel but it costs money, i think.
So, what did they say about transportation again? Fast travel is out but you can use rikshaws or something?
There's fast travel, but you have to discover places first. However, you can pay caravans or something similar to take you to an undiscovered destination for a small fee.
So Morrowind looked pretty cool, and just about everyone liked it over it's successor Oblivion. And now Because of that, Skyrim is going to reflect Morrowind A lot more in characters, game play, and feel, But there is also a very large fanbase for the early predecessor to Morrowind, Daggerfall (Me being one ) meaning that The Elder Scrolls VI will reflect Daggerfall more? That'd be great

RPGs where you have a random chance to hit like dragon age/fallout etc are fine, as you're not directly involved in your character's actions, just clicking on an enemy and waiting for your character to attack them. When you're in a first person viewpoint and are hence much more involved, whether you hit should be based on factors that make sense, like weapon reach and the aim of the player.

I always wrote/said it as gamebyro because I didn't bother to read all the letters in the word. Same with how before I played oblivion/saw any videos' I spelled/pronounced 'cyrodiil' as 'cryodiil'.
I cant wait for this game... engine to be used for fallout 4.
Why? Cuz fallout > elder scrolls.
Clear and simple
