Guys guys guys. We are 16 days away from skyrim, why the hell are we talking about orange ninjas?
and he pulls up his shield and stabs you with his metre + long sword.
Even if he had no armor, a sword gives him way more reach than you.
I'm not running straight at the cunt, I walk up behind him and crack him over the head a few times, stamp his face into the floor. Clearly you don't understand how essex lads fight
I've always thought that the "folding" technique that are supposed to make swords so durable and lighter and everything, is the same technique as in making danish pastry and danish pastry wouldn't stand a fight against a baguette :v:

Also, Katanas requiring a shitload of folding is mainly due to the iron in japan being so poor quality.
get a bunch of little rocks, put them all in a sock and wing the sock at the guy
bam problem solved
I'm guessing you have never been to a cold environment during the winter... at least not standing out in the snow when it's -20 degrees Celsius and trying to pull your foot out of your shoe, take off your sock and out your foot back in. There is a reason there is something called wool socks and they are not used a weapons.
Are Akaviri katanas confirmed at all? Even though the blades are all but one man now, there has to be some sort of artifact or something you can get your hands on.

So don't load the sock you're using when you're outside.

Yes, you would obviously use your own sock :downs:

Hey, I made that! :v:
I recall a list that showed the armors, and "Akaviri" was on there, so I'm sure the katanas will be. Of course there is no proof that list was legitimate, but I doubt they would remove them.
If not... Well, mods.
"STEEL FOLDED 1000 TIMES!!" is a gimmick. Katanas were made from horrid grade steel and steel slag.
yeah obviously folding it 1000 times is a waste of time.
The iron was folded between 12-22 times, depending of the quality of it. Expert smiths did more than just folding, don't know exactly what but they did something to add more sazz to it.
And regarding the steel slag/horrible steel, as someone mentioned under you, if they weren't folded they would crack if you put it in your sheath.
in the 13th or 14th century I think, Japan actually started importing better iron from other places, and the quality of the Katana was really upgraded (obviously). Still, the katana was always made so that it would break after excessive clashing with other swords. In Japan, the skill of the wielder was very important, so all of the training went to dodging and counter-attacking rather than defending. You just weren't supposed to fight with them.
[editline]25th October 2011[/editline]
Also, funfact: The Katana used by Sepiroth in FFVII was actually used in japan, but in pairs. Two soldiers would carry the entire length of the swords over their shoulders, and when horses came (it was used for horses) they just pulled it out and sliced the horses legs with it. P cool shit.

[editline]25th October 2011[/editline]
A tanto also has the advantage of being concealable, so if a ninja was pretending to be a civilian they wouldn't give themselves away by holding an expensive sword.
I'll reiterate my post on the previous page, if you needed to be casual about it, you'd send a woman.
[editline]25th October 2011[/editline]
It has nothing to do with folding. Japanese swords were low-quality.
Katana's weren't the only blades that was forged with this technique, and if they hadn't, I can't see how they ever would've lasted on the battlefield. The fact that there are intact katanas from the 15th century today must means that at least ONE katana was well made.
Hey remember when this thread was about Skyrim?
Good times.
What's Skyrim?

What's this Skyrim you speak of?
Do you have a problem with your eyesight?
I'm saying it does not have anything to do with how the blades were folded or forged, it's about the swords being of bad quality in general.
No need to be hostile, I just thought you meant that Katanas were made by just cooling and smashing steel.
And I can only point to my first post of the page, a badly-made katana will perform bad, as will a european longsword, and vice-versa.

We're three weeks off and I can't help but feel they haven't hyped the release up nearly enough. They need to expand marketing into mainstream media ASAP.

opposite spectrum katana fanboy get
as stated before, a katana is no better or worse than any other sword made by an equally skilled smith of another style with the same metal, and when it comes down to it, the skill of the person using it is most important
They should make Morrowind free, or half price the day before release or something like that to promote Skyrim. I mean it worked with Tribes: Vengeance, right?
Ooookay.
You just seemed aggravated, is all.

Daggerfall, Battlespire, Arena and Redguard became free because the only way to play them was on outdated DOS. I guess the time every PC use blu-ray, we would get Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim and any other elder scrolls game released on CD-DVD for free.
I hope I am accurate to presume that blu-ray is better than DVD or else I would start another shitstorm/discussion/off-topic conversation/arguing.

Battlespire and Redguard aren't free.
Woop, managed to get my hands on a 360 so I'll be able to play without the use of my godawful PC that can't run it:dance:

I might buy a used 360, it's pretty cheap. My PC is getting too old for games.
Did we really have a long discussion on swords? Cool :v:
You weren't part of it though heheheuheuehueh.

Blu-ray drives should be able to read DVDs as well, meaning that they wouldn't be outdated by that point. There's also digital distribution.
I think the point at which they will no longer run on a modern OS could be the point where they are released for free.
And so where's my recommended specs? My 6950 is ready
Oh there they are. My computer is ready. Just 6 GB? My low res texture worry senses are tingling.
Did we really have a long discussion on swords? Cool :v:
Not if some idiots here dont know what the FUCK they are talking about.
Ninjas didn't have black suits, and they certainly DID NOT wear Samurai armor, they're enemies, remember?
They used disguises, and if they ever wore ninja suits, they were dark blue.
Iron was pretty low quality in Japan, so Japanese swords were folded and folded and folded until they were of the same quality as European Long Swords. But if an European smith fucked up their blade, is it still high quality just because it is European? No. Japanese smiths knew damn well how to fold, and here are 2 smiths you might of heard of:
Muramasa and Masamune, 2 of the best swordsmiths and their blades are of more higher quality than most European blades, as they were usually mass produced and made with saving Iron in mind.
That said, I love Arabian Swords, like the Shamshir/Scimitar.
