I still have to beat Oblivion, I should get going.
okay fuck off with this whole "hurr gamebryo" bs, its a new engine how many times do we have to tell you people before you get it
Not really. It's a modified Gamebryo engine that they decided to call it new because they changed so much of it.
Not really. It's a modified Gamebryo engine that they decided to call it new because they changed so much of it.
Yeah but it's so heavily modified that it basically works like a completely new engine. Like I said before people saying it IS gamebryo just cast this idea into other peoples heads that it will have the same old shitty problems and systems.
Not really. It's a modified Gamebryo engine that they decided to call it new because they changed so much of it.
Yeah, whats this Source Engine I keep hearing about too? I keep telling people that its just Quake, but they don't listen to me!
Except the "old shitty problems and systems" are to be blamed on the developers.
Or how about who fucking cares it still looks better and will play similarly whether it's a new engine or not. I mean holy fuck how many times have we gone into a 10 page discussion about it that goes absolutely nowhere. I'd rather us talk about whether or not there's tits on virtual statues of a fictional god than this again.
Except the "old shitty problems and systems" are to be blamed on the developers.
Partially, it is still a pretty dodgey engine. But regardless they've obviously tuned it to how they wanted it so much that its improved.
They should put up a comprehensive list of keeps/throws from the old engine I'm willing to bet that basically everything that people are whining about from Gamebryo has been rewritten. Regardless, if most of the key features of the codebase have been replaced, it is a new engine. If two engines use the same model/texture/sound/shader formats, they are still not the same damn engine.
Honestly, you're all going to argue about this one way or another. Think about it this way, you have a large boat made out of wooden planks. Every day you will take a plank from the boat and replace it with a new plank. You do this until the old planks are replaced entirely. Is this a new boat? Or the same boat? At what point did the old boat become a new boat? also, what would it mean if you remade a boat out of all the original planks? Essentially Creation Engine is every plank of gambryo removed and replaced until you have a new engine.
[release]AusGamers: Now let’s step it back a bit, I want to talk a bit about Creation Engine. You guys have been demoing the game on Xbox 360, is there any particular reason why you haven’t shown the PC version? Because clearly that would be the higher end. Todd Howard: Yeah it does, obviously the PC version looks better. It has higher textures, it can run much higher resolution and a lot more graphic features. We tend to show it on 360 so that it’s a good baseline for people to look at. So when they then see the PC version it’s going to go up. We’d rather do that than have people see the 360 later and it takes a step down. We’re really excited with how it looks on the 360 and the PS3. So we do author the art the same for all the platforms, it’s just that they render it differently. Also for things like this [tradeshows] -- I don’t know if people realise -- but as a game developer, the 360 is just much easier to show it on, from getting it started, to showing it, to controlling it, it’s just much easier to demo on logistically.[/release] [release] AusGamers: Okay, now going from Gamebryo to Creation, what was the outset goal for you guys, in terms of the features that you wanted and the stuff that you didn’t want anymore -- the kind of hang-ups that you had. What was the process going forward? Todd Howard: Well we came off of Fallout 3 and we’re always moving our own technology forward. Whether that’s using a piece of middleware or doing AI or things like that. We had a pretty big list of what we felt the 360, the PS3 and the high-end PCs could do, and it wasn’t like we said “we’re going to re-write the engine”; we just sort of started with “okay, let’s do this to the graphics; let’s do this to the gameplay”. We started hitting that hard right after Fallout 3, so I’d say after the course of the next year and a half it turns out we’d re-written all of this -- look how it looks; we’re not using this anymore; we’re not using that anymore. So that’s when we actually decided to brand it; we should call it something of our own. But it wasn’t from the get go “we’re going to re-write the whole engine”. It was a priority list and we ended up re-writing more than we thought we were gonna, but it worked out. [/release] In short, they actually planned to continue to use Gamebryo. But for me, it doesn't matter how the game looks or whats it's on. http://www.ausgamers.com/features/read/3076322
Not really. It's a modified Gamebryo engine that they decided to call it new because they changed so much of it.
Calling it a modified gamebryo engine is like calling a sculpture a modified block of stone
Calling it a modified gamebryo engine is like calling a sculpture a modified block of stone
-snip- It was a poor joke anyway.
They need to release this game ASAP, so people can stop watching trailers for hours and finding microscopic clipping issues, lighting renders, and ragdoll falling mechanics to bitch about like dumb motherfuckers who are forgetting that this is The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim we are talking about here, and not some piece of shit game that can be judged based on such trifles. Seriously, grow those beards you talked about 8 months ago and remember just why we're excited for this game. It's a Bethesda title, expect a few minor issues and mod them out after a week or two. Now is no time to be overcast with doubt brothers, it's only a week or two away.

I had another good one in there but it's no longer showing up. It was complete with matching beard staff
To be honest, i hope there are some goofy ragdolls and glitches theyre just what I expect to see from bethesda
All day today I was expecting my character to do a cool first-person finishing move. I then realized I was playing Oblivion and that there are no finishing moves which me very sad.
I find it funny the only thrusting attack in Oblivion is stealth attacking while unarmed.
Time to re-play oblivion.
I've been all hyped about Saints Row 3. What happened to my Skyrim hype?
okay fuck off with this whole "hurr gamebryo" bs, its a new engine how many times do we have to tell you people before you get it
Apparently enough times to convince yourselves that this "modified" engine is going to remedy the many shortcomings of Oblivion and Fallout 3. I'm a fan of Bethesda's previous games but I accept they aren't perfect. There is no need to work yourselves up into a frenzy trying to defend their work. This is a day-one purchase for me, but I am expecting: wooden animations, disconnected melee combat, poor physics, shoddy water rendering, noticeable texture and LOD model popping, and probably some pretty blurry textures. If I expected top quality rendering, modeling, and animation I'd be looking to Crytek; lets face it, Bethesda just doesn't do a great job of making art assets. It's acceptable since they are producing such large projects. The games are still immersive and exciting but for entirely different reasons. You shouldn't let your love of their work blind you to their flaws. If anything, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
"I dont have high expectations for skyrim, ergo the engine is gamebryo" I dont get it, is that what you're getting at? The post and argument as a whole was remedying the "_____ engine-unrelated feature looks bad because they are still using gamebryo" bullshit.
Just pre-ordered skyrim retail. $88 is nice and surprisingly cheaper then it is on steam.
Fucking Australia
Just pre-ordered skyrim retail. $88 is nice and surprisingly cheaper then it is on steam.
That is fucking obscene, why exactly is so incredibly expensive in Australia? I must have missed something here
Just pre-ordered skyrim retail. $88 is nice and surprisingly cheaper then it is on steam.
you have my pity good sir
88 dollars Jesus fucking Christ Why is it $88
That is fucking obscene, why exactly is so incredibly expensive in Australia? I must have missed something here
All games are expensive For a preorder at under $110 Skyrim is a steal, the best example ever is the fact that MW2 is still $100 second-hand here Mind you it's $89 on steam, and I assume that's the same price you're getting, and I also assume it's that EB Games special edition with the artbook and stuff (it's the collector's ed sans dragon basically) that he got, so good deal Even $100 isn't that much to pay for a good game when you consider it, I'm unemployed and I get over it pretty quick. If I actually had a job I'd be able to buy the games I want all willy-nilly. But then our minimum wage is higher than yours :smug:
