The reason I am getting this game is not the graphics, or the animations, or whether or not theres wooden combat, but because its a Bethesda game. If you get an entire hand crafted world to muck around in and explore, filled with Bethesda style easter eggs, what more is there to want? I am happy that I can play any race now without looking like Ive sucked in every atom of Helium in a hot air balloon and have every hair product ever known to man in my hair.
lol did you really get rating pressured into buying a guy Skyrim?
You're joking right? I did it to be nice. I can see why that's hard for you to understand though.
I watched that 41 minutes of mage-warrior gameplay, and I gotta say, the combat looks a lot like Oblivion. In fact, the whole game looks a load like Oblivion. I'm really hoping the combat feels better than it looks, because I wanna have fun melee fights in my Elder Scrolls Games, and so far they've all been kinda lacking, being honest. And I'm still playing through Dark Messiah over and over again just hoping for another game with swordfights as great as that, and I can't help but be disappointed when I see the fighting in Skyrim.
What was wrong with Oblivion's combat besides "IVE BEEN HACKING AWAY FOR AN HOUR AND NOTHING HAS HAPPENED"? The combat was fine imo besides balance. Guaranteed if they developed a new system then it would make the RPG elements less useful and people would complain
Has Amazon said if they will be putting up a download version to buy of Skyrim? They usually have a lower price with the download version than the physical copy.
Yeah, still way ahead of oblivion though. holy fuck you people are fast
not really, it's not worse but it's not much better
I really hope we get to explore some Dwemer ruins.
I really hope we get to explore some Dwemer ruins.
We won't. They weren't in the second trailer or anything.

And there was no reason to be tactical because in the end it boiled down to smacking them as fast as you could until their health or your stamina ran out.
I might be able to help you and anyone else that may have your question. Please note that since the game isn't out yet, certain details may not be confirmed and little is known about race bonuses at the time of writing: *cut*
After that long list I should figure out what race I should pick when the game is released. Archery and thievery suits me the best, but I love magic as well. Just don't want to be some ugly ass elf e.g. Bosmer or Altmer in order to get these bonuses and traits.

Guaranteed if they developed a new system then it would make the RPG elements less useful and people would complain
I'm not saying they should remove the RPG elements, not at all. But Oblivion's Combat felt impactless, the weapon's don't feel powerful. There's no reaction to a strike. There's not indication of a hit besides that little half circle shrinking. There's not screen shake or any other visual feedback to indicate a hit, a block, anything. It's static, almost motionless. In Dark Messiah, enemies react to every single hit, no matter how much damage it does. Swings feel powerful, even if you miss, because every motion moves the screen a little. There's just so much feedback from the game, it makes fighting feel very engaging and dynamic. Oblivion had nothing of that. And let's not talk about Morrowind. Don't get me wrong here, I fucking love Oblivion and even more so Morrowind, but the combat system is lacking, a lot. EDIT: This is the same for any ranged weapons and guns as well, masterfully demonstrated recently by Rage. Every hit provokes a reaction, a little twitch, and indicator of the fact that you actually interacted with the enemy. Feedback makes combat dynamic, organic. The Elder Scrolls series needs tons more of it.

There's no resistance or reaction from enemy. You just click and click. Dark Messiah still has the best melee combat.
Even Morrowind had occasional hit reactions by the way, Oblivion is really the worst of the newer games in that respect.
In Oblivion it feels like you're just attacking their health bar, not the actual person.
Because the health bar didn't fucking move (because it was balanced like shit). So basically you just want better reactions because if they actually made it more skill based then, again, some RPG elements would become pointless.
Does Skyrim have better hit reaction than Oblivion? I'm not watching the videos so I can't see for myself.
So I heard in one of the videos a while back that this song from Morrowind returned, and was given a new Skyrim themed facelift. Does anyone who has listened to the Skyrim soundtrack know of any others that are coming back? I don't want to spoil the soundtrack before release, but Morrowind has one of, if not my most favorite soundtrack ever composed, and I can't wait to hear the new versions Skyrim can offer.
Not sure if I'm late, but you can win a trip to the launch party in L.A by fessing up to your worst elder scrolls crime here http://www.elderscrolls.com/whatwasyourcrime

Another problem Oblivion had, was that you can't control when you strike, only click to swish. Both Morrowind and DMOMM give you control over your hits by making the character strike at release, not swish at click. And this gives a lot of weight to the fight as well.

Also Mods don't ban I'm joking, I can even take a picture of my hard copy collectors edition, it's just a joke.

Guys, i'm confused. Skyrim comes out on the 11th, my birthday is the 18th. I recently have wanted another xbox to able to play with my play friends online and stuff, but I probably won't get the xbox in time for Skyrim. My PC will definitely run Skyrim. But for some reason I just don't want to get it on PC even though it makes the most sense. I prefer controllers for RPG's, so will you be able to use a gamepad for this on PC? Also most people I know use an xbox so I kind of want for xbox live and stuff. I don't know it makes the most sense to get it on PC but I just don't want to :s Help? :v:

And I'm just saying guaranteed there would be so much bitching if any RPG elements were removed due to it. There has been for Skyrim, it's mostly died down, but it was there at pretty much any announcement (even if it was for a better experience people still bitch).
That is why I bought it on steam.
It was actually referring to the soundtrack but my automerge broke :v:
Both Morrowind and Oblivion's combat system were deeply, deeply flawed. I haven't seen much of Skyrim's in action but it's a given that it will at least be better than the systems of those games.
