I don't want to pre-order yet, I want to see the specs so that I'm sure that my PC will over-heat, crash and/or lag when playing this game.
Why does it being a pc pre-order make its pre-order price to much? It has just as much value if not more then the console version (due to mods).
Because digital copies avoid issues of shipping, case/disk/manual production and the cut a wholesaler would take. A digital copy sold for $50 would make roughly the same for the developer as a $60 physical copy. Though it would depend on the developer, how they ship it and such.
I'm a little disappointed at the price increase. Aren't console games more because of some licensing thing? Hopefully there will be an awesome CE at retail

He didn't specify digital. I'm British though so I'm expecting it to be £30 as normal, which is fine considering console games are £35 to £40.

Tradition has no weight on market values. It's just tradition. When you make a game like this, the costs necessary are tremendous. Not only do you have to pay for the programmers, artists, animators, etc., you've also got to pay for any technology licenses, patent licenses, promotional material, advertising campaigns, ad infinum. To recoup some of that cost in a failing economy, the price rises in different channels. $10 more is a small price to pay for a game of this caliber.
Honestly the game could have cost a lot more, maybe double of whatever price you are getting. Either that or other games, such as CoD should cost half the price because they don't nearly offer as much entertainment. Sure you can play the same map for 500 hours but this offers so much variety in gameplay.
Alright! My Oblivion came in the mail today. Unboxing pictures below. This is the case. The graphics and whatnot are actually on a thick plastic sleeve around the box. Without the sleeve. The Oblivion symbol in the middle's actually embossed into the box, which is made of a fairly hefty metal. The inside of the box. The metal is actually an outer cover, and the inside's the standard plastic. Still yet, the case will most certainly stand up to more abuse than a normal PS3 game case. This guy's on the front cover, behind the manual. And the back cover has an image of a Daedra. Contents of the box. Right to left, top to bottom is as follows: Skyrim $10 mail-in rebate, Game manual, map of Cyrodill (And the Shivering Isles), main game disk, add-on content. And this is the map of Cyrodill. I might frame this. Overall, for $30, it's not a bad deal. If you've already got Oblivion, then there's no need to buy it again for a console, but if your PC can't handle it, you've not already got it, and you don't have an Xbox, then why not pick it up?
$90 on the Australian store?!? Fucking fuck shit.
Is there some sort of special pre-order bonus that's different for different stores? [editline]4th August 2011[/editline] Besides the map
Is there some sort of special pre-order bonus that's different for different stores? [editline]4th August 2011[/editline] Besides the map
Pre-order on Steam and you get a TF2 hat. Woo.
Is there some sort of special pre-order bonus that's different for different stores? [editline]4th August 2011[/editline] Besides the map
Not yet. Just a cloth map, so far. That said, a cloth map is a bloody excellent pre-order bonus.
Skyrim always comes into the conversation whenever I go into game or gamestation when I'm wandering round town with mates It's nice to see everyone excited about elder scrolls
Why does it being a pc pre-order make its pre-order price to much? It has just as much value if not more then the console version (due to mods).
Consoles have royalties, and it's a pre-order, we're supposed to get at least discount on steam.
Skyrim always comes into the conversation whenever I go into game or gamestation when I'm wandering round town with mates It's nice to see everyone excited about elder scrolls
It is. I'm kind of wondering if Gamestop will let me upgrade my Skyrim pre-order to a Skyrim CE pre-order when that's announced. If not, then I'll just cancel the regular and put down a pre-order for the CE version. Either way, I still get a cloth map.
Definitely getting the CE regardless of how little I make working at WHSmith :v:
You know what'd be an awesome CE bonus? Having WETA workshops churn out a bunch of Dovahkiin helmets.
Is there actually an confirmed CE coming?
it's pretty much been an established tradition that PC games are $50 (or 30 pounds/quid/babies that you use in englandlandshire) so for it to go up to $60 on a PC game is just breaking tradition
Tradition? Don't be silly, currencies rise and fall costs of games go up, when you want to make a return on such a huge game with so much content and value tradition has nothing to do with the cost. If you are willing to pay $60 for a console game, then you should feel no different about PC, a platform that allows mods adding value if you so choose to your purchase.
Consoles have royalties, and it's a pre-order, we're supposed to get at least discount on steam.
Supposed to? No, I'm afraid you are not. Valve/Bethesda Softworks may choose to allow pre-orders at a discount, you are not entitled to one. Yes console have royalties but funny enough games cost money to make.
Thinking of making my own mod of a ring that summons full summonable armour and a set of rings for each weapon summon both on constant effect, just for a bit of fun and as a lil experiment on how badly I can fuck things up by accident.
The price of games should correlate exactly with the hours of entertainment they provide.
The price of games should correlate exactly with the hours of entertainment they provide.
So HL2 would be worth 9 bucks or less?
The price of games should correlate exactly with the hours of entertainment they provide.
Steam says I have 851 hours in Garry's Mod...
Steam says I have 851 hours in Garry's Mod...
Yeah... I've got over a thousand. I don't think your pricing model would work too well. Minecraft would cost millions.
So HL2 would be worth 9 bucks or less?
hl2 is a 15-20 hour game [editline]5th August 2011[/editline] Are there any plans to bring that 5th anniversary edition to the UK? I really want another map and a cool box.
I heard the reason Beth wont let us ( UK people) Pre order on steam is because of GAME threatening not to sell the game in their shops. If this is true then FUCK YOU GAME, you hardly support PC Gaming.
So HL2 would be worth 9 bucks or less?
It doesn't have to be 1:1.

Only 1/5 money back on trade-in Ridiculous Prices Having to show an I.D. and bank statement to trade in games. Worst gaming shop ever.

Like Gamestop, sans bank statement and returning open boxes? The ID makes sense, though, and it's probably a local law rather than a company policy.
Game offer a terrible selection of PC games, but so does everyone else. None of these stores deserve your money, just use Amazon.
