That's exactly what I'm doing. Bethesda now has to sell 5 over-priced games to make up for my lost sale. By accepting this price you pave the way for future price hikes.
Cry me a fucking river. Im paying 60 bucks because unless they remove everything from the game last minute, Skyrim is going to be the only game thats worth 60 bucks this year, hands down.. I dont even need to play it to know that. That's the difference, CoD rehashes and "Generic Shooter #576807" are not worth 60 dollars, Skyrim is, so as long as 60 bucks is the norm, then thats what Bethesda will be charging and that's what I'll pay. Lest we also forget that the US and CAN dollar have been dropping in value (so has almost all currency), and cost of living is increasing, so you're basically paying the same value that you would have been paying for 50 bucks 10 years ago.
Just pre-ordered on steam. Now I don't have to worry about it come November.
god damn I'm playing oblivion right now it just feels so much that in the middle of development someone busted in and said ALRIGHT WE'VE GONE GOLD SHIP IT GOGOGOGO, hopefully skyrim won't have that feel
so is everyone just bending over for bethesda because they acting on faith that skyrim will be the second coming? $60 for a PC game is ridiculous, there is no excuse
With any other game, I would probably wait for it to go down in price before I spent a full $60 on it. I'm going to make an exception for Skyrim. So yes, I am going to bend over for Bethesda, and then possibly take it in the mouth and every other orifice I can fit them into, because I'm a nerd and love Elder Scrolls. Problem, bro?

10 dollars more for a video game from 50 dollars? Way less of a price rise then it should be. If you think about how much time and effort goes into a game I would easily pay up to 70 dollars for a good game. As graphics and physics gets more complicated developers have to work harder and still be expected to release a game within a reasonable amount of time.

Again, the reason for this price was just leeching a quick, extra buck, people will just see the console versions are the same price or get a nice discount somewhere and just completely ignore it. God help us if kotick decides to sell the next call of duties for $80...

To people saying it's only ten dollars: money actually matters when you have to work for it and pay bills.
If 10 dollars is that big of a hit to your wallet, the last thing you need to be spending money on is some video game.
To those who say that 10 dollars is a lot
Oh I'm sorry, 50 dollars. Now you can go out and buy yourself some Chicken Nuggets and a drink with the leftover tenner!
Technology doesn't fill in the programming work you do, it also doesn't fill in making all the models. Each line of code still had to have a human behind it deciding how to make this work.
SpeedTree was used to produce flora for previous games; instead of this, flora is produced using Bethesda's own technology
This costs more money.
The engine allows snow to fall dynamically, scanning the game world and then determining where and how snow falls upon the terrain
This also does.
the technology allows designers to assign tree branches different weights, determining how wind affects the tree. Wind also affects the game world in other areas too, such as by determining the flow and direction of water in rivers and streams
Oh look more money spent
As an example, he described how the player can "stare at a fork, or an apple, and then look up and see a mountain, and [...] then run to the top of that mountain"
Also costs money. Not only do these cost money, they cost manpower and even more development time. Not only do they have to implement these over a basic game engine. They have to test it, optimize it, and then make sure it works with everything else. 10 extra dollars ain't that much for this.
10 extra dollars ain't that much for this.
depends on how much it is expected to sell
*text*
Like they need it... they'll make millions with the game anyways and 10 dollars will be just another bit, i don't know about you but i would prefer getting more customers happy than getting a little bit richer, if they want you to pay for overpriced shit then get some kind of special edition going, because paying that much for a download is just pathetic. And today is either that or a plastic DVD box and it will get worse if people continues to support it. I'll also note that i will probably buy this, hell, definitely, but it's scary how easily people accepts this, just because they absolutely suck the company's cock, remember how some people think Black Ops is absolutely amazing and possibly the best game in the world, i really don't care if they waste money on it, but by doing so, they'll be affecting everyone else. At least complain about it, really, Skyrim probably won't be an overpriced pile of crap but that still doesn't justify the price, maybe they'll listen.
]
This screencap is fucking amazing. Dammit i'm excited for this game.
I'll buy it when I beat Oblivion. :v:
$60 plus free future content!
$60 plus free future content!
pfhahaha
You know what I think is the most amazing thing about Skyrim? All the screenshots we've been seeing have come from the console versions of the game. All the video comes from the same source. The game looks bloody fantastic, graphically. Now think of how good the PC version will look on max graphics. Once you stop convulsing, feel free to post.
the tree looks like ass
Against my wishes, I'm really wondering what your ass looks like. Does it really look like a digitally rendered tree of questionable quality? You might want to get that checked out, bro. As for the debate/argument, I'm expecting Skyrim to be a good game. Yeah, that might be really stupid of me, but I think that even if it were completely fucking horrible, I wouldn't regret getting it the day it came out.

Bear in mind that $90 is the toward the low-middle are of the standard price range for video games here.

Has it actually been given an OFLC Rating yet?
I was also hoping they would add system requirements to the pre-order page but I guess they aren't read to reveal those info yet.
UK can't pre-order yet.

Cool. Keep them to yourself.
I'm not sure I'm going to buy the game until I see some more gameplay. Bethesda games have always rubbed me the wrong way. Skyrim does look amazing, but I'm still not sure how much better it will be compared to Oblivion/Fallout 3. I just hope there's more of a direction to the story (and how to get there), which hopefully means firing all their horrible voice actors. God they made me want to kill everyone in the towns.

Strange that Ireland can pre-order and UK can't.

Now, adjusting for pitch changes and intonation sets, that gives us... About six or seven thousand unique voices.
