they didn't in morrowind but they did in oblivion, and in oblivion it was because bethesda got lazy and just used already rigged female bodies for the beast races, but in skyrim they spent a lot of time making the races more distinct

It is just a very cleaned up version of Gamebryo.

All of the .BSA files have Max 7z Compression so the game would extract to about 8-9GB
