I don't think you get it. For baseball fans, its good American history, and physical. It can't be any baseball card obviously. It has to be one of a kind and genuine. Of course, BBCard are only historically worth to base ball fans, but other historical objects are only valuable to others as well. Its because of the history itself.
Its like having the skull of a well known leader, or cane of a historical figure, or something of the sort. Its useless, but because of its history and symbol and condition, its valuable. History is expensive and must be preserved.
If anyone thinks that something purely digital from a game, and has no genuine history or use, is more valuable than the genuine article of real history, then they are insanely dense. Real world resources also have far more cost than a hat that takes an extremely small amount of digital space. So yes, your shit is more worth than pixels, but your shit is worthless because it doesn't have anything related to history that many changed people and [I]meant[/I] something.
Also, I'm arguing because it at least has a point, and because its arguing a silly idea, and if it didn't matter, don't reply and just move on.

Value is ENTIRELY subjective and arbitrary. Certain Baseball cards are valuable because people want them. There is a demand. They may want them for different reasons, but that's exactly why they have value.
Your shit isn't valuable because nobody fucking wants it.
At the same time, it seems an entire economy has sprung up around TF2's hats. to somebody who places no value in virtual merchandise, this can seem baffling. But in the end, it is [I]no different[/I] than baseball cards, old records, NES cartridges or anything else that can sell for ridiculous amounts of money.
