If it had more than just a nice book and a plastic-action figure that doesn't move, i could possibly jusfity the price. For example, the Halo: Reach limited/legendary editions were perfect. Why can't more collectors editions be like those?
I want a life-sized statue of a dragon, then it will be justifiable.
Fuck yeah I contacted my Bethesda public relations person and they're sending me a PC Skyrim CE :v:
PVC figurines of that size tend to cost about 100$. You can trust me, I'm a weeaboo. Really, it's not that expensive Actually, I just checked. 2/3rd of the size of that tends to cost 100$ Though, price isn't propotional with size, but if it was, it would've been worth 150$, which is the entire collection
Paying that much for figurines is still ridiculous, I don't care what they were made out of. People in England and the rest of Europe get it the worst, though. Seriously, 130 pounds? 150 euros? Sweet merciful CHRIST.
Our hands-on time with Skyrim left us with the impression that Bethesda isn't trying to reinvent The Elder Scrolls formula; instead, it's taking what was great about the previous games and adding some interesting new content on top of it.
And that's why I love them (and Skyrim).
I haven't followed a game's development since Halo 3, but I love Oblivion and I'm dying in the wait for Skyrim, amongst other games. But since I have a lack of knowledge, can anybody fill me in on what this face generation thing is? I have only heard mention of it and it sounds like how in R6V you could take a picture of your face and it would graft it to your character.
In order of who gets fucked over the most by the extortionate prices. Europe: $214.23(US) /£130.68(UK) /€149.99(Europe) /$204.94(AUS) UK: $213.99(US) /£129.99(UK) /€149.19(Europe) /$203.86(AUS) Australia $209.05(US) /£127.52(UK) /€146.36(Europe) /$199.99(AUS) USA: $149.99(US) /£91.49(UK) /€105(Europe) /$143.48(AUS) We all get pretty much shafted, except America, who pays less than 2/3rd what we do. How do you justify that, Bethesda? Shipping costs? You need to add another £60 for shipping? Hnng so much fucking rage.
Yeah that CE price is ridiculous, I could cough up the $150 for The Old Republic since that's an MMO but for a singleplayer RPG? At least The Witcher 2's collectors edition offered a lot more.
With DX:HR, Battlefield, AC:R, etc. etc. shelling out for the CE is fucking ridiculous.
A Comparison of 3 other Collector's Editions with an equal amount of content. Deus Ex: Human Revolution - £85 Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine - £75 Assassin's Creed: Revolution - £50 Skyrim - £130 Yes, Bethesda, I love to suck your cock.
The Prices: $149.99 (US), €149.99 (Europe), £129.99 (UK), and A$199.99 (Australia).
lol nope Guess I'm getting the normal edition then. I'd pay a max of £50 for a collector's edition, £130 for a resin statue of a dragon is ridiculous. Anyone know if the cloth map is available with all preorders or just certain retailers? Fallout New Vegas' CE was only 70 bucks and it came with an art book/comic, custom playing cards, a few poker chips from the Casinos in game, and a metal Platinum Chip. I can understand maybe 80-100 bucks for the Skyrim CE because of that huge and detailed Dragon but 150 is way too much. I guess I will just have to mug someone outside of Gamestop.
I was at QuakeCon today, though I arrived too late to get into the skyrim presentation. What a disappointing day.
While $60 is justifiable for the standard edition, the CE is obscenely overpriced. I think you'd need to be suffering from a brain hemorrhage to actually make a conscious decision to buy that. Then you've got the international prices which are even more. Maybe this is some sort of bet some CEOs have made with each other, to see who can charge the most money for the stupidest shit and make the most money while doing so.

I was expecting the CE to be like maybe $120-$140 in Australia. But $200? Fuck that.
CE is way to expensive imo I will just get it retail or from steam. I'm not that of a hardcore fan to TES but I still think it's a fantastic game from Morrowind to this hopefully.
My lord, I think the Black Ops Special Ed. was cheaper. Bethesda are being even bigger whores than Activision, somehow.
I wouldn't even know a place to put that little statue and art of the game I can check online if I wanted too. "The making of" will probably be uploaded on Youtube too.
Fuck yeah I contacted my Bethesda public relations person and they're sending me a PC Skyrim CE :v:
What made them do that?
if you're paying $100 for a foot high plastic anime schoolgirl you're not being shrewd enough, plastic is not expensive
if you're paying $100 for a foot high plastic anime schoolgirl you should find something better to do. I left that sentence vague for a reason. By "find something better to do (period)" I mean you should rethink your life. In a world where people pay $500 for a pair of fucking plastic sunglasses, I'm all for letting idiots waste their money, but really, what moron would actually pay that much money for something so utterly worthless as a 12 inch high plastic statue? Get a real hobby for Christ's sake.
Here's an UTTERLY insane idea, people: Don't want a little statuette and collection of game art, Or don't want to spend too much on a game? Buy the regular edition. For fuck sake, at the end of the day, you're still getting Skyrim. That's all that matters. EDIT: I REALLY didn't expect to get ninja'd on that.
I just pre-ordered Skyrim along with Morrowind and Oblivion even though I already own them retail. :v:
That's not the point, the point is that companies think this actually acceptable, and it will become the norm. People say "oh, nobody will buy it at that price", but they're wrong. Some people are either rich, stupid as fuck, or too weak-willed to abstain, so the price will slowly start to hike.
What made them do that?
Member of the press.
My one worry, ONE worry, and they just took it away. Yessssssssss. I'm so happy right now! I loved the DB quests in Oblivion. Didn't really like the Morag Tong quests, honestly, so I'm glad DB is returning. (yessssssssssssssss) [editline]5th August 2011[/editline] And, Alex, that is why I would love to be a video games journalist.
Why is The Old Republic a load of shit? It's an MMO that I really enjoyed playing and I'd rather spend $150 on a MMO collectors edition than a singleplayer game.
Dad just pre-ordered Skyrim for me <3

I had assumed (or rather, hoped) that there'd be a somewhat practical advantage to buying it, such as an engraved metal DVD case covered in awesome celtic knots, and maybe a real burlap map or something. Above all, I had hoped it'd cost no more than $80. Instead, we get something that's basically the same as the pre-order deal, but it has a 60 dollar plastic dragon. Oh, and an artbook containing art that will be scanned and uploaded within 5 minutes of release.

I like MTV's article on the Skyrim Collector's Edition. http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2011/08/05/skyrim-collectors-edition-is-150-includes-a-dragon/ Especially how they made the price not seem as bad.
While Russ provided me with an estimated dollar amount, I converted those figures into a more understandable currency, i.e. the Burger King Whopper, Jr. The "Skyrim" collector's edition includes: PVC statue of the dragon, Alduin the World Eater: Russ' price – $50/39 Whopper Jr.'s 200-page, hardbound art book: Russ' price – $25/19 Whopper Jr.'s "Making of Skyrim" DVD: Russ' price – $10/8 Whopper Jr.'s "Skyrim" game disc: Actual Retail price – $60/47 Whopper Jr.'s When you price it all out like that, I suppose it's not too bad of a deal. After all, according to Russ' calculations, all that stuff is worth over $145. Even better, it's worth about 113 Whopper Jr.'s; this deal is suddenly looking like a delicious value.
