Should I buy Skyrim for $42 and wait 1-2 weeks for it to be delivered or pay $90 and get it the night it is released?
It really depends on if you think $50 is worth 2 weeks. I personally would be like "FUCK I CAN'T WAIT 2 WEEKS FOR THIS GAME." and pay $90.

That's along the lines that I'm thinking of.
I'm with you guys. For once, I'll be able to have a completely new experience. No walk-throughs, no hints, no spoilers. (Final destination). I'd go insane if I had to wait another two weeks.

There might be someone who is willing to buy you the game for $60 on Steam if you send them the money by Paypal. Takes quite a lot of trust but I've seen it be done successfully before.
Only real issue I had when watching that was the minimalism of the UI and maybe the constellation thing, but both things will probably be fixed by mods in no time if the UI is as bad as everyone thinks it will be. The combat still looks a bit iffy, but it's still better than I expected, and it's a lot more fluent and reactive looking than Oblivion's was. As was said before, it looks somewhere between Morrowind and Oblivion, in a good way. The ragdoll transition is the only other thing that kind of bothers me, but at least the ragdolls themselves have actual weight to them and don't look like the most awkward things in the universe this time around.
You tend to get used to the flaws in Bethesda games when you play a lot of them, and this one looks like it has way less flaws than any one of their other games besides maybe Morrowind. I actually find it kind of ironic that they did better with building the entire game from the ground up than they did building Oblivion with the Gamebryo engine.
People look like actual people and not potatoes, they have more than a grand total of about 4 animations, their dialogue sounds a lot more natural, there's diagonal walking animations, all is well.
I also think I nerdgasmed a little when I saw the Black Hand on that parchment.

I'd probably do that if I wasn't buying it retail, but thanks you reminded me that I have a contact in America who could probably preorder a retail version for me.
An American game would work on an Australian computer right?
I like the minimalist HUD.
I think the best thing to do is to let the player choose what elements show up in the options menu.

Do Australian computers have some type of anti-foreigner blocker that blocks foreign programs and such?

There should be no problems. It's console games which you have issues with.

Steampunk or Magic mechanical powered monsters? How exciting.
Does anyone know if dragon shouts will use mana or not, also if they have a cool down time?
Steampunk or Magic mechanical powered monsters? How exciting.
Try both.
They are both steam operated and magically brought to sentience.

Apparently, they need recharging. If you look while he's browsing through them, you'll see the word "Recharge" and then some numbers. I don't fully get it, but I think it's the best way to do it, actually. Won't cause me to spam them too much, and won't cause me to never use them

If there's one thing I learned from the Fable series, it's that skills need some limit to them otherwise it breaks the game. I like the idea of a recharge on shouts.
ah never mind, i read in the Bethesda forum
•Shouts work in levels based on number of words uttered. One to three words per shout. Holding the button down longer utters more words and makes the effect stronger, but also increases the cooldown
•Not based on Magicka or melee. It’s its own system based around cooldowns
If I were to guess, the differeny numbers are how much power you have, and when you use it you get less power, resulting in a level-2-powerful spell instead of level 3, so not only are they limited in quantity, but also in power. (Mainly guesstimating on my end though) And I have no problem with that either

Then I wonder what they mean with

Oh wait, GOD I am stupid. Of COURSE. That's how many seconds cooldown they have!
This dragon shout system is starting to seem pretty damn cool. They're literally using a language as a game mechanic. I can't remember another game doing that. Well, I mean, spells, but that's not completely new.
The only way you could seriously say this is if you just played it for the first time in the last year. It was one of the most amazing games ever made when it released over five years ago.
It's aged awfully, there's no reason for a game from 2006 to age that bad. Morrowind has too a little bit (in regards to combat & graphics) but it's still great because the story, world and a lot of the characters are unique and interesting while Oblivion is very boring and generic in all of those regards. The open-world aspect of Oblivion is good but everything else in it has been done better than RPGs that came out a decade before.
Plus I can't really understate how bad the writing & story is in Oblivion. Also I notice that the people who say "it was amazing back then" usually also say it was their first RPG/Elder Scrolls straight after.
Plus I can't really understate how bad the writing & story is in Oblivion.
They basically blew their entire voice acting budget to have Patrick Stewart say a grand total of about 12 lines that were comprised mostly of incredibly cliché cryptic fantasy dialogue that was mostly irrelevant for the rest of the game.
Totally worth it.

Well, that's cool and all. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go play Oblivion again for the n'th time
Well, that's cool and all. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go play Oblivion again for the n'th time
maybe halfway through you'll have a premonition that you should be playing something good
Hey guys.
Opinion =/= What it really is.
Oblivion is a great game, they just tried something new.
Playing Morrowind after Oblivion I get the hate, but it is great in it's own right.
ITT: MY OPINION IS BETTER THEN YOUR OPINION
Ugh, i still can't be arsed to play morrowind despite having it installed...
What the fuck are you guys going on about the ragdolls and combat like it's going to make or break the game? Think about how EPIC the story will be. 300 hours? they HAVE to have some epic shit packed in there.
And the only reason oblivion is so good is because of the sheer amount of content. If you break oblivion down to animations and graphics, yah, it fucking sucks. It always has, they are working with the SAME hardware as 2007, that means they could have created the SAME technology and used it then. But the reason that people love the game so much is because you get to experience it the way you want to and become the ultimate motherfucker and you get to experience hundreds of amazing stories with humor and seriousness thrown in, not because you get to sit there and stare at "OOOOO look at THAT WATER" or "OMG blah blah blah!".
This game will be extraordinary, people. even if they were still using gamebyro I'm sure I would be almost as hyped as ever for Skyrim. Oblivion looked like shit and the only people who care don't deserve to even remotely experience this blessing of the gaming industry. All this new fancy shit is just icing on the cake of fucking amazing. We should appreciate each aspect, new or old, of this game.
I'm sure it's huge, but it won't be 300 hours.
[editline]8th August 2011[/editline]
No game is 300 hours long, without multiple playthroughs.
It'd be pretty horrible for people who aren't archers/mages to kill them, otherwise. They have to make it fair for warriors and the like too.
It makes the dragons seem less like dangerous, sentient adversaries and more like stupid flying reptiles.
Dragons need to eat too.
Eat the enemies when they're dead and don't pose a threat anymore, don't you think? Or eat one of the dudes who they pluck up from the ground?
I also think I nerdgasmed a little when I saw the Black Hand on that parchment.
I'm a bit disappointed they showed it, I'll lose the "oh shit" feeling when seeing it for the first time without knowing anything about it.

Combat and exploration are the main gameplay in the game. If the combat truly sucked, it would mean a major part of the game would suck. Last time I checked I'm playing games for the gameplay, not the story. And no, the story won't be 300 hours.

That was their estimate, and since I haven't experienced it, I'll just take their word for it.

So that won't be usefull in factory :v:
Well, to me, terrible animations and such distracts me from the game. Good animations add to the immersion, bad ones do not.

Sorry, I guess I just have a higher appreciation for depth rather than blood and guts. I see the story as the cause of the exploration and fighting. I understand where you are coming from though.
