Sorry, I guess I just have a higher appreciation for depth rather than blood and guts. I see the story as the cause of the exploration and fighting. I understand where you are coming from though.
I'm not exactly one for blood and guts either but it's fact that combat IS a very large part of the game, so it should be done well. They've done exploration pretty well in Morrowind and Oblivion, nailed in it Fallout 3 and will hopefully keep the same level of detail as FO3 had for Skyrim. They've got one third of the formula down, they're improving on another (story) but one is still kinda missing.
What the fuck are you guys going on about the ragdolls and combat like it's going to make or break the game? Think about how EPIC the story will be. 300 hours? .
eh the 300 hours estimate is with sidequests so it shouldn't really be counted into THE story imo
Two things are really putting me off this game. The constant grunting is just horrible, it's really annoying now, and the combat looks kind of clunky.

Oh yes I see what you mean. I played through FO3 and all of its DLCs... I hardly remember it, nor at the time had I known that it was created by the people who made Oblivion.. So I really have no frame of reference there. I think New Vegas (yes, i know that isnt bethesda) was better ONLY because I actually remember it.
Well nevermind, I remember Mo-Ship Zeta, but I don't think I really understood the FO universe then either. And I remeber the Pitt. Holy shit.. Liam Neeson is that you?
What the fuck it's all coming back to me. Wait.. nope that's just gas.
Combat and exploration are the main gameplay in the game. If the combat truly sucked, it would mean a major part of the game would suck. Last time I checked I'm playing games for the gameplay, not the story. And no, the story won't be 300 hours.
Who said the story will be? They said average total gameplay time may reach 300 hours if you played through it multiple times to try out everything.
I just realized that Skyrim is being released on Veteran's Day, which means it's going to be out when I've got a 3 day weekend.
Thanks for reminding me of that!
I guess with 300 hours they mean the hours of modding and raging too.
Steampunk or Magic mechanical powered monsters? How exciting.
I'm guessing that maybe it's like those machines from Morrowind
You know, I'm more looking forward to putting the soundtrack on my ipod than actually playing the game.
the constant recycled footage is killing my hype for this
Demo walkthrough is demo walkthrough
You know, I'm more looking forward to putting the soundtrack on my ipod than actually playing the game.
This coupled with the Guild Wars 2 soundtrack, i'll be in fucking Jeremy Soule heaven.
What the fuck, Skyrim is almost 3 months away. How the time flies.
That was their estimate, and since I haven't experienced it, I'll just take their word for it.
Well, they exaggerated.
the constant recycled footage is killing my hype for this
As I could see, there was no recycled footage, just recycled actions.
He just went in the same places we already saw in previous videos, stabbed the same people using similar weapons, etc.

Understandable, not all of the game might be this polished and they dont want to give away to much.
They alreaddy scripted this part to work with the demo (dragon swooping up the giant ect)
Would someone repost the link to the video? It was removed from dailymotion.
You should just download it. Worth the trouble
I'm crossing my fingers for there to be facial hair that grows over time in the game. That would be fucking awesome.
I still love how a lot of people from [del]Something Awful[/del] certain other forums of questionable reputation on FP are still whining about how everything is scripted and won't be in the actual game. See, I might have agreed with that about 4-5 years ago, but most of the stuff that they've showcased is actually quite viable nowadays. One of the main reasons that Oblivion failed to live up to all of it's hype was that all of the claims were incredibly far-fetched at the time, they were trying to do too much, too soon.
Most of the technical stuff that's been shown so far in Skyrim has already been done before. which doesn't mean it doesn't look great, but it does mean that it is completely plausible that they are telling the truth this time. The only real scripting so far has just been having certain things spawn at certain times, you know, like every demonstration for every major video game ever.
The only two things that I think that they're lying about are Radiant Story (Again, not impossible, but they're overhyping it) and Dynamic Snowfall (It's probably mostly just changing the overlay on the textures on things like rocks and other terrain, I don't know the specifics, but there was a video explaining that kind of technique. I suppose it's still somewhat dynamic if you can have snowfall in non-predesignated areas, but it's still not fully dynamic, and once again, they're overhyping it). I don't really give a fuck about either of those, though, it still looks exceptional to say the least,
Also, after going back and watching through the presentation again, I can't believe Todd was able to put up with the crowd. Yeah, it is pretty natural for just about everyone to want to be a complete asshole in the game (Especially since it was so fun in Oblivion), but if I was presenting a game like that and someone shouted "Rape!" just because I walked past a female NPC (followed by the rest of the crowd laughing), I'd probably just shut off the console and walk off the stage.
Although it was pretty funny how the crowd was so easily amused. Perhaps because they've been stuck with Oblivion for so long that every new thing amazes them. Hell, I suppose I'm kind of like that too.

And to get different beard styles, you must acquire saliva from a dragon?
I'm sure it's huge, but it won't be 300 hours.

No game is 300 hours long, without multiple playthroughs.
I respectfully disagree. I clocked roughly 270 hours on my original save in Oblivion.
Who said the story will be? They said average total gameplay time may reach 300 hours if you played through it multiple times to try out everything.
I really hope this isn't how it turns out...
Would make it quite a lot shorter than Oblivion :S
Didn't they say it would be 500 hours for the first playthrough when they first announced the game?
I know it would have been a long time ago, but to go from that to 300 over MULTIPLE playthroughs is kinda disappointing.
At least I do recall them saying that, I may be wrong.
Bethesda needs to release more information. Three months before release and we haven't even seen a single Argonian, Bosmer or High-Elf.

Actually, I believe he said the only scripted dragon action was when it showed up before he entered the mountain.
Also I notice that the people who say "it was amazing back then" usually also say it was their first RPG/Elder Scrolls straight after.
And? Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game, and I still love it. Why are you using the fact that it's their first RPG as an excuse to say their opinion isn't valid? The same applies to Morrowind, too.
I couldn't help myself and already pre-ordered it.
November needs to hurry up.
Are they going to have a celebrity cameo in this game?
Are they going to have a celebrity cameo in this game?
Cameo? CP's "appearance" in Oblivion probably cost it tons of other VO artists. If there's a celebrity appearance you'll know 50 miles away.

Also, going to see how Radiant Story pans out before purchasing. Radiant AI was a crock from the start, but that's nothing compared to what Story claims to do.
