I want to do warhammers but I take it that only people have armor rating in the game? or do all things have some armor rating?

It's all personal opinion. Use both and see with one you like best!
I believe warhammers do more damage but hit slower than greatswords.

Problem with that is that I'd have to spend perk points to truly compare them, and I plan on only doing one two-hand type to conserve perk points.

Keybinding is the same, it works in other games, Skyrim is the only game I'm having trouble with. Chat windows do pop up on the bottom right, but I cannot open the UI.

Well warhammers and greatswords are both two-handed weapons and use the same perks/attributes. A stat comparison of both:

Warhammer = More damage / Slower speed
Greatsword = Less damage / Faster speed

It does. The only area the mouse pops out of the screen is the upper-left corner.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the in-game key bindings. I'm assuming you use the default Shift+Tab? Did you place anything odd in those key bindings?

Also I might recommend restarting Steam if you haven't already.

Yeah I know that already, what I'd like to compare is the ignore armor rating aspect of warhammers against the critical damage of greatswords, and I haven't found any info on if every creature has some armor rating or if its only people with armor, the amount of extra damage that a greatsword critical hit would do, etc.

There are map markers for misc quests. Press[B] J[/B] and select Misc Quests, then select the ones you want to display.

Is anyone else not fast-traveling and just exploring and traveling by horse? I'm finding with the stamina constraints of the horse they're more interesting to ride than oblivion's horses.

Also, can someone post a map of the outdoor dragon nests/wall locations. I've only found two both in SE Skyrim...

Already restarted Steam a couple times. And the key bindings might be the problem, I set my Steam overlay key to Pause Break.

Ahh I'm sorry I completely forgot about the perks spread off like that. I only use one-handed weapons so I don't have much experience with two-handed weapons. The only real option is to save before you spend the points. Use one perk and test it out, then re-load the save and do the other perk. Compare it that way?
