Hmm, now that I think of it, you're right.
The fallout games are usually funny and "cartoony" so shooting someone in the foot and having their whole body explode into pieces is awesome.
The Elder Scrolls is more serious and blood and guts dismemberment wouldn't seem right for The Elder Scrolls. But looking from the videos, when you slash someone they spew blood from that cut, and it looks alright.
This is just my opinion.
None of the Elder Scrolls have had dismemberment and Skyrim won't either. It works for a game like Fallout New Vegas, but not any of the Elder Scrolls.
punch a guy in the stomach and watch as he and his entire extended family explode

Has no point dismemberment, but most enemies burst into violent disembowelment when you kill them in Daggerfall and Arena. Im sure if dismemberment was possible at the time, they would have had it too.
I love how Morrowind and Oblivion are "all elder scrolls games"
dismemberment doesn't really work too well in new vegas either. cleanly cutting someone's head off with a baseball bat just doesn't happen

It doesn't matter if a sprite explodes into guts once you kill it, thats not real dismemberment. Hes talking about Fallout 3 and New Vegas' system where you can chop people into tiny bits.

But That was only the Artists' vision of how a corpse would look like, also note the violent disembowelment that occurs when you kill a civilian in Daggerfall (aka a fluff of Dust)

I like to think of it more as you are hitting them so hard with a baseball bat their head gets knocked clean off and goes flying like a Baseball.
^ What he said
what about when you hit it 8 times and not cause any problems and then the ninth time it explodes violently
punch a guy in the stomach and watch as he and his entire extended family explode
Hmm, should develop a spell that kills all extended family members, but not the person you cast it on. Makes him suffer more.
Familicide
Like I said though, its a "cartoony" game and it can get away with more silly things than Oblivion or Skyrim can.
New Vegas isn't a super realistic dismemberment simulator.

I don't see how cutting someone with a huge axe and having none of him limbs fall off is unrealistic, combat would be way less dull if it had some gore instead of two guys swinging axes at each other and getting pushed back slightly.
dismemberment doesn't really work too well in new vegas either. cleanly cutting someone's head off with a baseball bat just doesn't happen
It's not cutting, it's more like scoring a home run.

Its combat gore, and thats whats important.
I think chopping people into tiny bits on the ground is pointless, but I'd at least like to see some Dark Messiah grade dismemberment where if you get a critical hit or just otherwise really fuck somebody up, their arm, head or leg might come off depending on where you hit them.
Dont think its gonna happen, though. Maybe in mods.
I'd like to see deep gashes and bloody holes at impact points but about the most I'll get is a cut texture

You should really go get a therapist
You should really go get a therapist
it's a realism thing, not like I'm aroused by gore or anything

I'm not sure you realize this but swords hurt
You should really go get a therapist
Yeah, he should.
I cant wank off to my childish "pure fantasy game" unless the entire game is sterile and boring and completely devoid of significant violence or any other naughty thing that may happen in real life.
Eh?
I was referring to the Tutorial-Skip mods specifically, because of Patrick Stewart, I know they like the mods otherwise.
Kind of a late response but if I remember correctly, that mod doesn't really skip the tutorial, it just delays it.
You have to get yourself caught and sent to prison, then the tutorial starts. Patrick Stewart and all.

Really?
I thought the goal of it was to SHORTEN the tutorial, but that sounds AWESOME too!
Wish I would have known that when I started this playthrough, thanks for informing me though :D

I think dismemberment would work in TES, but it would need to be realistic... not just exploding like Bloody Mess does.
It would be epic if Skyrim had the layer-based damage system that Dead Island has.

Being able to burn people to a crisp with that flamethrower spell.
It would be epic if I could watch that.
I Pre Ordered Skyrim, hope it going to be good.

Why can't you? Regional restrictions?
I would guess it's because his/her location is China.
Anything that makes combat seem more impacting would be good, Skyrim has the exact same problem as Oblivion. Basically, when you hit someone you don't really get a sense of impact, the enemies just take the blows like it's nothing even if you're taking down a lot of their health. The finishing moves help a bit but that's still only 2 seconds or so of the actual battle.
I don't think the combat seems much improved compared to Oblivion which is a shame.

I've seen a whole lot more staggering and knockbacks, but unfortunately still not as many as there should be.

That would be cool to have, but then Skyrim would take another 2-4 years to be released because of trademark Bethesda slowness/laziness.

That spell that is used when fighting the frost spider "Flames" looks so fun to dual wield. Running around spinning 360 degrees with flamethrower hands.

That does sound pretty awesome, I just wish you could make spells like it with varying range and/or width. I'm sure mods should be able to handle any magical want though.
I would have not thrown him off a mountain if he was that cool.
I wouldn't have used a mod to turn him into a cabbage and sell him if he was that cool, too.

Also, good Oblivion mods that add armor and weapons but do not effect graphics at all?
