No, you don't even need to kill them, it adds on encounters. Well that's what I heard I think it was in the battlelog forums announcements somewhere.

I also wonder how Rush and TDM will play out on the old maps, let's face it the layout of those maps isn't made for that, no doubt they've moved things around but how well will it resonate with the feeling of those maps we used to play on and have a grand old time on.
