I have still not picked up BF3 yet... Is there an Infantry only mode, and 24/7 servers for certain maps, or are we looking at a list of official, vanilla normal mode with vehicles on complete map rotation servers?

Yep, there's a infantry only mode, and there are 24/7 servers for maps too. All the servers can choose their rotation and a ton of other settings.
Anyway, I just came off a game of Gulf of Oman, and oman I was loving this pistol:

I was sticking around the construction site as recon almost the whole round defending the shit out of it, and this pistol was being a boss for me. There was one point I ran up one of the big half constructed buildings, and found myself in the middle of an enemy squad with no back up. I ran in and shot 2 dead, and ran around the building with the remaining members of the squad left wondering what the shit just happened, then I shoot them in the back of the head with it.
The sniper was pretty useful too, because of the amount of times there were enemies in the other building unaware of me aiming my sight to them lead me to many clean headshots, taking them out easily.
And the spawn beacon had my squadmates there almost all the time, and I was able to get right back into the action if someone killed me.
All in all, that was fun as fuck to be a recon who was actually running around surprising enemies from their back.

Try turning UPnP off.
I don't crash out of the game as soon as the level loads, instead I crash out after a while, but this fixes it. Might be worth a shot for such as simple solution.

I think it's to get all the unlocks from points (Which for engineer is 145k points.)
