Yeah, freshly uploaded from me:

Wasn't NASA trying to use a massive laser to destroy some of the space debris a while back too.
The m/s thing at the bottom, is that the speed I'm going?

Yes.
Yes.
Cool, it's at like 25,000 :v:

i think this mod is a bit too powerful
i still have half my fuel left
Ok so since someone else made a Saturn V, I made a Soyuz. :D
Dunno if the staging is done correctly, probably isn't, but it was easiest to do it this way because the four things on the side got crazy thrust, and it ripped the rocket to shreds if they fired along with the middle one.

shit i forgot to go back down
i'm stuck going 60000 m/s away from kearth

What side rockets are those?
I think they are in this pack: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2668640/SIDR_Parts_0.5.rar
Might be in this pack too, I haven't really checked: http://www9.multiupload.com:81/files/8C3869A60323708BBAFB913CDEE7F7C1D6621E614B1C37FF93D32058F9AE3CBD7CD41991DD8624F7C266334E2150A7E8A2586FFA904CB63A80414787069A10F118DDE31C5D71D41112CC6E5AE11342D31B78/Sunday%20Punch's%20KSP%20parts%20v%201_08.zip
is there any other way to see how high I am? the top thing has probably got about 30 numbers cut off :v:

without quitting
[editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
Highest altitude achieved: 2916804168479
You can quit and then resume from stats screen I think.
i already took off again, this one has 2 of the same part i used last time next to each other
im gonna see if space ever ends

There will be a restaurant there and that's about it.
There will be a restaurant there and that's about it.
Uhh, *ahem*, it's in the other direction.
I just made a massive box like space shuttle, managed to get all the way to 1,000,000 metres then went all the way back to Kearth at 2500 m/s
Just read an article about them getting rid of the ISS.
The problem of galactic garbage is not a new one -- NASA even has an orbital debris program whose efforts encompass everything from reducing the amount of debris released into space, to designing satellites that are better suited to survive collisions. Much of the debris floating in near-Earth space is jettisoned components of old rockets and satellites.
Just shows how serious of a problem space debris can be.

Even a nut, bolt or a small screw can pose a large threat to the ISS.
Many parts of the ISS are constructed from thin pieces of metal, because that's really all you need to survive in space, and these small metal pieces come flying around at incredible speeds. The ISS moves at over 7000m/s, which is over 25200km/h.
That is really, really fast.
[editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
So basically something moving in an orbit in the opposite direction of the ISS would hit it with an equivalent speed of 14000m/s, or 50000km/h.
Most bullets travel around 330m/s, some maybe as fast as 1200m/s.

And that's why space planes are a cool idea because we can get places wayyyyy faster. But space debris + passenger space plane = disaster.

Stand by for Mode 1 Bravo~
This is a pretty awesome design. I can't get it to fly straight, though. The first stage always causes it to pitch over in the same direction every time. Even when I use an RCS module and tons of SAS modules, I can't do anything with it.
I attached some solid rocket boosters to the first stage and that makes it take off straight. The solids make it go a lot faster than the five liquid rockets in the first stage, which I think contributes to the stability of the rocket. Once they burn out and I switch to the liquids, though, it goes right back to pitching over.
And, I'm sure you've noticed, when you go up a little past half thrust with the liquids, it causes the 3 to 5x1 adapter to detach from the fuel tank, generally resulting in an explosion. So you can't make them go fast enough to make the rocket go straight, without the engines literally falling off the bottom.
I'm currently experimenting to see what I can do about it. That 3 to 5x1 coupler has always caused me major problems. It can barely stay attached to anything.

Try throttling up a little more slowly.
Try throttling up a little more slowly.
Yeah, I've figured that out, but it still pitches over to such a degree and with such momentum that you can't get it to point straight even with an RCS.
I've only been able to get up to around 70% thrust before the 3 to 5x1 breaks, though, even with easy throttling and dealing with the fact that by the time I hit 70%, the rocket is completely horizontal. At ~1 kilometer in altitude, being completely horizontal is definitely not ideal.

Shortly after this, it blew into a million pieces.
no, it crashed into the sea. I could add some sas things though and it'll work :v:
but fuck that, i'm adding more rockets.

I don't think space rockets are meant to turn that fast.

This is why the smoke needs to come out with velocity, like it does in real life.

The USAF even has an entire directorate dedicated to the tracking of space debris and making sure it doesn't murder the sat networks.
jeb is awesome
