I wonder what happens when the counter hits 999,999K...
M.
No, it needs to go to Terra, not Mega. If it was to go to Mega after kilo and then Giga, they'd have to add hekto- and dekameter
Derp, you're right. Momentary lapse in judgement.
No, it needs to go to Terra, not Mega. If it was to go to Mega after kilo and then Giga, they'd have to add hekto- and dekameter
I think they went for the same as bytes. Meters: 0 -> 999 999 m Kilometers: 1000 km -> 999 999 km Megameters: 1000 Megameters -> 999 999 Megameters Gigameters: 1000 Gigameters -> 999 999 Gigameters Terameters: 1000 Terameters -> 999 999 Terameters Etc... I'm already a bit annoyed about the symbol when it's at kilometers, because the symbol for kilo is a small k and not a big K, but they use the big K. (Big K is for Kelvin)
Well, I don't hope so because it will change a lot of times, I mean, 999 999 km = 99 999 Mm, but I agree on the Kelvin thing.

Wat.
I tried mod parts for the first time last night; wow, they are overpowered! Made getting to orbit incredibly easy.
Only really seem overpowered because as of right now, orbiting is pretty much the main goal present to players. Let's see you try interplanetary return travel with the defaul parts and A. Not like like fuck due to all the parts you'd need there and back and B. Actually manage to get off the gorund without exploding.

Doing that with vanilla parts only however, would be insanity. I'd imagine that as you progress through the completed game and unlock better parts they would be more like the parts present in mods.

The moment you click "Launch this ship", it starts collapsing in on itself if you don't start the engines (which makes them overheat in ~5 seconds). Fun fact 2: It goes way~ through the ceiling. Since you can't get a perspective above the ceiling, building it involved a whole lot of guesswork.
I really can't wait for the the Moon. I've perfected just going directly into a space/in a direction and orbiting for myself. Going to the moon would be one HELL of a fun challange.
I really can't wait for the the Moon. I've perfected just going directly into a space/in a direction and orbiting for myself. Going to the moon would be one HELL of a fun challange.
The best part would be going back.
The best part would be going back.
Or figuring out a way to do it.
God damnit, my ships engine broke off, orbit denied, ship is flying off into space at 2800m/s.
Have the developers said when they are going to put the moon and other planets into the game?
I'm going to send this to NASA. [editline]24th August 2011[/editline] God damn why does this thing still work
Have the developers said when they are going to put the moon and other planets into the game?
The next update is fixing things that would affect moon landings, so I would expect it to be in .11 or .12
The new terrain system is completely translation and rotation-safe. It can be moved dynamically without breaking visually. Orbital analysis and propagation system, allowing for a complete planetary simulation, among many other possibilities. Improved physics to allow landing on/launching from moving objects (like orbiting moons).
I'm gonna try and make a 2-stage lander module, first stage to land, second to leave the moon. [editline]25th August 2011[/editline] probably brakes deu to earth's gravity while trying to land, but oh well. [editline]25th August 2011[/editline] it didn't! here's the lander your speed won't be very high when leaving the moon, but when you can skip time it'll probably not be a problem. [editline]25th August 2011[/editline] main problem with landing on earth with it (which it shouldn't be used for) is that it's heavy, it can keep itself in the air but when you're too late with slowing down you'll crash. [editline]25th August 2011[/editline] you can even use the remaining fuel in the lander to leave Kearth and give you a little speed, but it looks cooler leaving it on the moon.

I got a speed record of 4700m/s, however, this was while trying to get into orbit. Way too fast, oh god, flying off into space once more. Then again, somehow my main rocket that got me off the ground, went into perfect orbit, dóh.
Welp, my game finally crashed. Here's the last screenshot I got:

68 hours, 42 minutes in, 812,262km. I have no idea when it actually crashed, but the screen was black and there was a blurred, semi-transparent Steam message. I tried bringing up the Steam overlay and it worked fine, but when I closed it it remained as frozen and semi-transparent. From this experiment I believe we can conclude that going really really far fucks up your game. (Though we already knew that.) Or my computer sucks.

I think it keeps working if you just use sleep mode
You left your computer running for fucking 68 hours?
That's less than 3 days? I rarely turn the main one off.
i kept my computer on for a whole week once true story
i kept my computer on for a whole week once true story
I did that back in 05, was torrenting forgotten hope. And then the file was corrupted.
I did that back in 05, was torrenting forgotten hope. Eventually a Piece of dust flew into the Power Supply and nearly caused the house to burn down.
