Finally built a decent spaceplane. It's not super long range, but it can get into orbit fairly easily. The only con I can think of is it's a bit front-heavy. Keep the SAS on and it won't bother you much. download: http://filesmelt.com/dl/Rule_The_Skies.craft
What prop packs are you using to make this?
What prop packs are you using to make this?
the C7 aeronautics pack, and I think silsko, but that's it.
Does anyone know where I can get a 2m tricoupler?
Does anyone know where I can get a 2m tricoupler?
No, but I've played enough KSP to see where this is going.
Edit the .cfg's then. Sheesh.
... I'll be right back. Just had a terrible idea. Edit: YEP. THIS WAS A TERRIBLE IDEA This engine can reach lightspeed. Problem is, if i take it anywhere above 2 clicks, it rips itself off. Ideas?

I wonder, when we get a moon, will we have guidance computers that will help with guidance, such as plotting an optimal course to follow for orbit, then a deorbit burn to head for a lunar orbit and then landing? I don't mean as in taking over, but more like calculating ship mass, fuel amount and engine power and it calculates a course to follow, but you aren't forced to follow. Like a GPS system.
Well next update is an orbital map, and things. It would tell you when and how long to give an engine thrust, when to maneuver to slow for lunar orbit, and if things go right, maybe docking with space stations, and with command modules for a return flight. EDIT: Then again, these are things that would take a really long time to plot effectively.

Course says your going to smack into planet X, you don't want this, so you full burn in another direction until your projected course has you slingshotting around Planet X, or something like this. There could be some hintish way of telling you, since this isn't really a super die hard sim anyway.
Ok, new progress update now: I've finished up the time compression system, and added altitude limits for the highest warp rates (trust me, you don't wanna go for 10,000x warp on a low orbit). Now, below 300,000m altitude/distance, you're limited to 50x warp. Below 600,000 the limit is 100x warp, and below 1,200,000m, the limit is 1000x warp. Above that you can go for 10,000x. Now I've started working on the Orbit displays. More specifically, the orbit rendering itself. Now, drawing lines that actually look good is quite a complex thing to do... Unity has very limited support for it, but thankfully there is a plugin package for it that does a very good job. I gave it a quick test today, and I must say I'm impressed. Not all plugin packages work this well straight out of the box. Here's a screenshot of the planetarium prototype, using this line rendering kit: The line styles are just tests at this point, but it serves to illustrate the different ways we could render orbits and trajectories. I'm quite happy with this. It's not every day you find something that is exactly what you needed and works this well. Tomorrow should be an interesting day of coding Cheers
Certainly will get interesting. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline]
Certainly will get interesting. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline]
Oh yesssss.
I tried to build a plane but it got ripped apart by the intense forces acting against it.
So yesterday I just attached shit loads of those FAF (Fire and forget) rockets onto my module.... ...And it actually worked, my kerbals are now floating towards infinity.
Edit the .cfg's.
this gives an idea to edit variables to provoke "glitches", like the carmageddon mod for GTA IV.
so i tried to put a craft that would be able to land after orbiting it didint even reach 3km's aperantly the wings form my craft were throwing my rocket off course anybody succseded in puting a winged craft in orbit ?
1. make a simple (and possibly light) rocket plane. 2. add stages of huge rockets underneath it. 3. use the big rockets to get high. 4. Stabilize. 5. fly down and land using the rocket plane's engine.
wings on top of a craft can cause problems like suddenly tipping-over. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] Might be better to stick your plane to the side of a rocket (C7's flight pack and side-mount boosters are useful for this)
I haven't had a single good experience with wings so far, better just to fire a lot of spin thrusters in a sequence if you ask me.
I've added 3 mod packs, launched the game and now I'm stuck on "loading". How long does it take?
I've added 3 mod packs, launched the game and now I'm stuck on "loading". How long does it take?
It depends, you may have installed them incorrectly.
I've added 3 mod packs, launched the game and now I'm stuck on "loading". How long does it take?
Takes about 5 minutes for my laptop. Which mod packs did you install?
holy shit i didint even need to use additional rockets , i managed to get in to space with 2 900liter tanks from c7 and a bunch of wings , who knew and landed on the dark side for the first time awwwww yeaaaaaahhh
Does anybody have some of those beautiful orbital trajectory GIFs from the real space program?
I cant set my joystick properly I can set the slider but I cant set the other axes. iits an old joystick so that might be why
The Challenger pack's fuel tanks have a curved top, which makes my rockets spazz out a lot. :(
I saw they plan adding bottom srb's, which you can stack. And i never got any problems. With the tops, maybe you should use another radial decoupler.
