I just built the most amazing rocket you are ever going to see. It's the most beautiful explosion i have ever seen.
Jeb would be proud.
For some reason i keep referring KSC as KFC in my mind , i dunno why :v:
I have a massive rocket that I can't stop from slowly tipping over into an unrecoverable state. It's already loaded with SAS modules, any tips? I think it might have something to do with the fuel over time altering the center of gravity. As the COG gets closer to the thrusters it becomes more unstable. The nose then acts like a giant airbrake and pulls the rocket over as its ass tries to overtake it. Also, a stab in the dark, but is there any form of tool I can use to slow down time? I'd very much like to film said rocket failing catastrophically.

You'll find out why if you build with them, but I'll go ahead and tell you that you would do best to put wings only on the first stage and as close to the bottom as possible. You can often end up using them as a means to support the weight of the rocket on the launch pad without resting the rocket on its engine.
Are there any balanced parts packs out there? I want more parts to use but I don't want to feel like I'm cheating.
Are there any balanced parts packs out there? I want more parts to use but I don't want to feel like I'm cheating.
SIDR, Sunday Punch's pack, and Winston + whatshisface's challenger pack.
Are there any balanced parts packs out there? I want more parts to use but I don't want to feel like I'm cheating.
The balance of parts can be up to you, the end user, if you take the time to modify them. When I download parts, I'm just downloading more models to work with to make my ships more varied. I experiment to find which combinations work best together and then edit the part values according to how easy or realistic I want the flight to be. A lot of the time, like you say, the values custom parts come with do seem like cheating, and sometimes they aren't strong enough, so I just change them myself. The only problem is the retarded amount of time it takes KSP to load when you have a huge amount of parts, and the fact that, as far as I know, you have to re-launch the game when you modify a part for that modification to have any effect. Its a lot faster than loading your main game.

Also, to suggest a part pack, most definitely and assuredly, you must download the radial booster pack. Being able to reduce the number of vertically stacked parts by replacing vertically stacked engines with radially mounted ones can greatly increase the structural integrity of your vehicle and prevent it from flopping around. Radially mounted engines also use angled thrust to increase in directional stability when used symmetrically, or to be used as a counter thrust to keep certain asymmetrical stacks from flipping over (like how the SSMEs are angled). How fast have you guys gotten to 10k? 35 seconds for me (launch took roughly 4 seconds), I plan on seeing how fast I can go to 10k and then back, probably going to use the same rocket that I used in the above challenge. I think we should get some challenges up in this thread, see who is the best! Only stock parts obviously, adds to the challenge. =)

And in reguards to my previous post, here's the rocket in question: The SRB's ontop are a recent addition. I thought by shifting the center of thrust above the center of gravity the rocket would inherently become more stable, and it does. They work perfectly right up untill they run out of fuel and then it all goes to shit. The wings they're mounted on certainly don't help with the nose drag issue, so im going to try wings on the base now. There are also 20 SAS modules and an RCS module. You can't see them though because I've hidden their fugly asses inside the shrouds.

[editline]29th September 2011[/editline] Did another Kerbal Space Program Shenanigans video. Snake rocket!

Dang it, YouTube seems to be down. Luckily they apparently put their best monkeys on the case, at least according to the 505 page.

Here's an update HarvesteR posted on the orbital view:
My ship is ready.
What does PE and AP mean?

Release the experimental build already :suicide:
