Hey guys. Hey. I get up to ~60km and my rocket starts tumbling like crazy and there's nothing I can do to stop it.
Are you putting RCS fuel tanks on the side of your rocket?
Are you putting RCS fuel tanks on the side of your rocket?
Nope.

What did I do wrong?
I'm surprised the only broken thing so far is the camera which can't keep up.

Can anyone tell me of any packs that contain drag chutes apart from the kinda old one on the space repository?
What did I do wrong?
When you cut to the next stage, the SRBs were still burning. Because of the placement of them, it sends them straight inward, towards the rest of the ship, which blows up from the impact. I think. That's what I can see from the video.
Can anyone show me a design of an elegant rocket with vanilla parts that can orbit and return back to earth? I can only build these towering monstrosities that can get into orbit but that's the end of it, no fuel left to return then... Oh and an image explaining the orientation ball thingie (the symbols on them)
This is the design I used: The whole top stage can reach a low orbit with a full fuel tank left over for a deorbit burn. It is slow though, for much of the launch it travels at about 100 m/s, so you have to be patient. That symbol indicates your current trajectory. In orbit that would be "Prograde". That symbol is the opposite of "Prograde", it is called "Retrograde". The purple symbol points towards the Kerbal Space Center.
Getting into orbit with vanilla isn't even close to as difficult as some people think. [editline]15th October 2011[/editline]

We made some progress today: Two 1.75m Engines, a 2m Upper stage engine and a little upper stage 1m booster, somethings may be subject to change. All thats left to do is a few utilitarian odds and ends. I did however find a way to make the heavy struts stronger without increasing the weight, so I made some medium struts as well. Jetted up off the pad a few meters, landed and waited 5 minutes. I think after this update we'll probably be shooting out adaptors and decouplers. we'll also be concentrating on some mun based projects too. Lets see where this rolls shall we.
This would be so much fun with multiplayer. Spacerace. Can someone make a rocket that kills only 1 person?
This would be so much fun with multiplayer. Spacerace. Can someone make a rocket that kills only 1 person?
Nah, on CP destruction all crewmen are killed.
Ever since the update to .11, I can't get anything remotely in orbit. Beforehand, I could get damn near anything into space, ad even in orbit, but not anymore. What happened?
Ever since the update to .11, I can't get anything remotely in orbit. Beforehand, I could get damn near anything into space, ad even in orbit, but not anymore. What happened?
Elaborate.

Are you sure that works with the latest version?
Elaborate.
Currently I use NovaSilko and the KW Challenger packs. I can't manage to get even a 3 stage rocket consisting of two decoupled rockets, a main engine stage, and a booster stage to get up and stay stable and stay in orbit, and I've tried everything I can think of.

Maybe not high enough? The atmosphere ends at 70km, remember that, the way i did it was to boost up to 35km then start turning to the side until i've reached the outside of the atmosphere, then boost a little higher to 100km then give more lateral thrust.
I wasn't able to reach orbit with that design. Are you sure that works with the latest version?
Yes, but you can't fly straight up then straight to the side, you need to use gravity all the way up. A good exercise is to always point your rocket towards the direction it's moving (almost), and just make small adjustments to the sides. Try to stay inside the prograde marker all the time. You need to go straight up for a while first though, and guessing where to start pitching is a bitch and varies from rocket to rocket and how high you wanna go.
This would be so much fun with multiplayer. Spacerace. Can someone make a rocket that kills only 1 person?
Formulation flying! Also, the coding could be used as a frontend for the AI
Yes, but you can't fly straight up then straight to the side, you need to use gravity all the way up.
To reach orbit, all I've ever done is fly straight up, turn left at 15 km (letting the vertical speed do the rest) and burn until I get an apoapsis that is higher than 70 km, then I complete the orbit by burning there. This has always worked flawlessly for me.
Sure it works, but you might be wasting a bit of fuel there.
I don't see how it would, since I have enough vertical speed that will get me up quite a bit, all I have to do then is apply speed on the horizontal plane to get an apoapsis. And my stage responsible for the orbit (which comes into effect around 15 km) isn't exactly humongous. Or would it be better to leave the atmosphere completely and then establish an orbit?
Posting this here because it isn't worthy of its own thread, it's a beta of a seemingly abandoned project, and a demo version with restricted features at that, but it's a little cool nonetheless. The demo is restricted to just the landing, though. It's very complex in and of itself, but the flight is short, so I'd consider it like a teaser for when we're soon going to be flinging our own contraptions at the Moon in KSP.
