Kerbal Space Program, or: "How many rockets can I slap onto this thing?"

I guess the Kuban missile crises wasn't resolved too well.
The mission was to get Space city 1 to the mun.
This is space City 1 (slightly older version):

This was the launcher (minus RCS modules and other things.):

It was about as stable as Jeb's mental state.
She Flies:

Stage 2 is a go.

Course plotted!

After some tweaking we get to this:

which lead to this:

Then this:

Slowed the rocket before the PE, then used the dwindling fuel supplys to keep the decending speed at bay.

Dumped the lower stage and watched them smash into the ground, as I used short bursts from the decent engines to keep the city at a stable decent speed.

Almost there.

Hit mun at 1m/s bounced and tilted ever so slightly, some bits may have exploded.

But mission was a success! (mostly)
All damage that incured can be buffed out by hammering moon rocks against it.
jezus christ
[editline]5th November 2011[/editline]
we need specialized moon city parts
Holy shit
I feel happy
my first ever attempt to the moon was very succesfull, landed and returned on Kerbin (although my orbit to it was quite strange)
Just about to commence my first Mun landing. I'm in orbit atm
[editline]5th November 2011[/editline]
De-orbit burn!

Lander separated and oh god why is this so hard to control FUCK it's going all over the place and the SAS isn't helping shit

I was attempting to do something like that earlier but with one module. It failed twice due to engine issues. I will try again later and post screens when I do it.

One made out of loadsa crap is alot more hilarious.
Shove full power on for too long then watch one side start to warp ever so slightly.
Then it begins to push through the entire upper assembly.

Oops.
I am working on a spaceplane with a satellite as cargo. Will post pics once I can.
I WILL get to the mun, even if I have to sacrifice every Kerbal on the damn planet!
Is it possible to figure 8 orbit between Kerbin and the Mun? I'm fairly sure that in principle it should work, as long as the gravity wells of the planets cross over to allow for the craft to orbit around the other planet.
I've installed PLF fairings, sunday punch, challenger pack and lander legs, what were the other mods worth getting?
Actually nevermind, just noticed the list in the OP.
I got the latest version from their website yet I don't seem to have a moon, am I missing something?

Check their forums, that where the experimentals are.
ah I just realised that the green mark with the X is to aim your retrograde burn
this could make getting out orbits precisely much easier for me

Get 0.12 X1:

I've seen a lot of people landing on the mün, but I have yet to see someone landing on the mün, returning to Kerbin and landing with only vanilla parts.

It's because vanilla parts being so small, causing them to get unstable.

Then ducktape everything or put SAS modules on every single part.
Almost got to the moon with a vanilla rocket, but due to my ship's heading being slightly off, I overshot it completely. Being the ham-fisted unintelligent being that I am, I was unable to correct the course, and instead ended up on a very wide orbit of Kerbin.
The rocket itself works, and seems to be stable, it's just my own incompetence that lead to the deaths of 3 very good Kerbanauts :(
Would anyone be so kind as to explain the difference between orbital speed and surface speed? Or at least, when it's appropriate to use each type of speed for measurements?
Many thanks.

I use them more for heading rather than the speed. The green indicator, which way you're heading, changes when you switch. If you're on surface it shows which way you're going relative to the surface of the body you are orbiting, if it's on orbital if shows your current direction relative to your orbital path.
Anyways have a story. I landed on mun but the lander tipped over (damnit) and then I accidentally detached (extra damnit).

So I rolled around for a bit, turns out the capsule makes for an ok rover

Made it to the mun in less than 6 hours using the intepid II rocket. I orbited for 1 hour, then decided to head back, but the mun's gravity fucked me up, so i flew into the sun.

I just did this, didn't bother with a bunch of pics, but I can do it again if you guys want.
Can anyone link me some shrouds so i can cover up the top of my rocket? I don't want to download 10 packs looking for the shrouds.

Plane was pitching down when you let go of the controls, so I turned it into a jet biplane, and now it works perfectly.

The first time I get into orbit of any kind... and I'm orbiting the sun.
Could someone upload a ship that can get to the moon at least? Default parts a plus.
Could someone upload a ship that can get to the moon at least? Default parts a plus.
Here's the one I used (it's big as hell).

So I successfully made it to the Mun. I waited around for a bit to watch the eclipse, and then I took off towards Kerbin. I ran out of fuel in orbit around Kerbin, and now I'm stuck :(
