Just achieved my first orbit ever, so satisfying! Slightly fucked myself over by shift tabbing for the steam overlay, which left me burning my way on full throttle out to space... Did manage to save myself by using the last 1/10th of last fuel cell to burn myself into a degrading atmospheric orbit, so I guess if I could be arsed to wait to scrub all the speed could technically save my stranded cosmonauts
It flies pretty well, for something so giant. :v: There's about a 50% chance that one or more of the landing gear will snap off when you land though.
[thumb]http://i.imgur.com/EGPRz.jpg[/thumb] Making a rocket powerful and stable enough to get this pod to the moon was really difficult, it took me 2 hours to build it. But when you land such a beauty, it's the best feeling in the world, knowing that you accomplished this.
Whoo! Landed on the moon, using only default parts. I started recording once I realized how good the conditions were, so I'm going to edit that and upload the video + some screenshots, and the craft, of course.
Here's the one I used (it's big as hell). http://filesmelt.com/dl/Shuttle_1.craft
Are you sure that's the right ship? I think you uploaded the wrong one, because that's tiny. (Or I might not have the parts pack you're using, if you used one for it, because I don't have any mods installed)
Just did an orbit (well like 3/4 of an orbit) with a periapsis of 6147m. A very close shave! [editline]5th November 2011[/editline] Vanilla parts
Just did an orbit (well like 3/4 of an orbit) with a periapsis of 6147m. A very close shave!
That orbit will decay because the periapsis goes through the atmosphere. The periapsis has to be at a minimum altitude of 68 km for the orbit to last.
What wootmonster said, but you CAN do that shit on the mun (no atmosphere to slow you down)
That orbit will decay because the periapsis goes through the atmosphere. Gaming the system :v:
I went past the periapsis no problem, but it did seem to fall apart when i set time warp to 1x. Gaming the system :v:
Interesting. How about the next time around? But yeah that should've slowed you way the fuck down.
Game started to freak out mere minutes before I would have landed/crashed on mun. Damn.
I went past the periapsis no problem, but it did seem to fall apart when i set time warp to 1x. Gaming the system :v:
It fell apart because it was freakin in the low atmosphere. 1x Time warp is normal pace.
Your müm is so fat Kerbin started orbiting her.
I successfully established a base on the Mün.
Your müm is so fat Kerbin started orbiting her.
That actually occurs when you catch the Müns gravity.
There's a glitch if you don't manually set time warp back to 1x after entering the atmosphere (letting it set it automatically to 2x and leaving it there), it won't go off rails and you won't be affected by gravity. That's why RedStars orbit didn't decay.
Do Not Quote All of the Images
You're testing me...
Your testing me...
GODDAMN IT Also, guess what I just did.
I did a little test, i edited an engine to use 0.1 fuel and give 500 thrust to see about orbiting the sun, i found that if you orbit the sun, then degrade the orbit as to where you pass through the sun, you surge to speeds of above 100,000 m/s. When i did it, i shot to 176,000m/s.
GODDAMN IT Also, guess what I just did.
Cool, how did you do it? I bet your proud of it.
Cool, how did you do it? I bet your proud of it.
I did it by shoting to wards it at exactly the right time. [editline]6th November 2011[/editline] Hang on and ill make some pictures to explain.

Nah, that wasn't funny. -sniped-
Just tried installing custom parts for the first time, why are some bits red? Have they not installed correctly or something?
Oh man this low glitch thing is cool Might be hard to tell but that's the landing site I just passed. My lowest point was 750 meters, but that was over the ocean. I'll take a better picture next time around
Just tried installing custom parts for the first time, why are some bits red? Have they not installed correctly or something?
Textures aren't 32 bit, just open and save them in paint or go find a fix on the KSP forums somewhere (someone wrote a tool to fix it)
Just tried installing custom parts for the first time, why are some bits red? Have they not installed correctly or something?
The textures lack alpha transparency, so they are appearing red because the game only loads 32 bit pngs properly. So basically, unless you want to add transparency to the textures of all the parts you're using, you're fucked until the mods update..
A well because kerbin rotates now I was 14000 meters above it this time
Just tried installing custom parts for the first time, why are some bits red? Have they not installed correctly or something?
Go to page 148. Look at first two posts.
