What's new in X2?
New for X2:
* The Surface/Orbital speed reading will now change automatically (and can still be toggled manually)
Bug Fixes for X2:
* The game would crash if the VAB tutorial is advanced too far while keeping the command module selection window open.
* Engine gimbals were not deflecting as much as they should be.
* Fixed the Max G reading on the flight end screen. Now it will only log sustained G forces.
* Fixed the Surface/Orbital Speed reading getting messed up when restarting a flight.
* Fixed a problem with the Time Warp code, that would sometimes force the time rate to 2x, but not unpack the ship. It would also cause G forces and other values to be incorrectly calculated.
* Fixed a problem with unpacking the ship for physics that could cause centers of mass to be offset, leading to uncontrollable tumbling.
* Fixed a problem that could cause orbits to become reversed when entering/leaving another planet's sphere of influence.
* Changed the Time Warp altitude restrictions to be proportional to the current planet or moon's radius
KSP would be so goddamn fuckdamn awesome if it used SpaceEngine.
Think about it. you'd be able to travel the whole goddamn UNIVERSE! With asteroids, moons, planets, stars, solar systems, galaxies!
Watched a stream last night where he made it to the mun with vanilla parts.
Pretty rad, it was his second attempt too.

JefMajor?
Meh i go to the moon with vannila parts all the time
cant land with them tho
cant even land with non vanilla parts :v:
is it just me or does gimballing make any multi engine rocket wobbly as fuck?
is it just me or does gimballing make any multi engine rocket wobbly as fuck?
What is "gimballing"
What is "gimballing"

The word "gimbal" began as a noun. Most modern dictionaries continue to list it as such. Lacking a convenient term to describe the swinging movement of a rocket engine, engineers began also using the word "gimbal" as a verb. When a thrust chamber is swung by an attached actuator, the movement is referred to as "gimballed" or "gimballing". Official rocket documentation reflects this usage.
It seems to do if you turn SAS on.
If it tries to correct the orientation of the ASAS module, the bottom (with the engine on it) might move differently to the ASAS module, and thus the engine can either overcorrect, undercorrect or go the complete wrong direction.
This is just a theory, but I don't have any trouble with this when I turn SAS off.
But with SAS off then you are basically having to be present 100% of the time as a pilot.
Something is terribly terribly wrong here:

I made something for Team Fortress 2.

Can anybody upload a good vanilla craft for me?
I always run out of fuel or have it too heavy.
Whoo! Landed on the moon, using only default parts. I started recording once I realized how good the conditions were, so I'm going to edit that and upload the video + some screenshots, and the craft, of course.
Are you sure that's the right ship? I think you uploaded the wrong one, because that's tiny.
(Or I might not have the parts pack you're using, if you used one for it, because I don't have any mods installed)
Because Windows Movie Maker is giving me trouble and I'm too dumb to use Sony Vegas and too lazy to try anything else, I'm not going to finish the video. But I'll upload the .craft file of the ship. Completely vanilla.

The Omega V rocket carrying the Destiny Mun lander takes off from KSC! (I couldn't take a photo on the ground because of the instability of the rocket. I also couldn't add Payload Fairings because the legs exceed the 2m base of the rocket)

At 26km, our pilots begin maneuvering the massive craft into orbit

Stage 1 separation confirmed

Stage 2 was used to burn closer towards orbital velocity, and stage 3 gives it the final punch

After 19 seconds, we go into MECO (Main Engine Cut-Off) until we reach the peak of our arch

Apoapsis reached, engine on.

Bake for one minute and wait.

We miss the Mun on our first orbit, but we burn again at the apoapsis to save time.

Which looks like that

On our third orbit we get caught by the Mun

Beginning a deorbit into a crater

Touchdown!

The Mun is boring

Time to go home

Caught!
And then the game crashed. :(

Use those rope thingies to keep everything all steady, and then keep pasting SAS on top of shit until you can fly to the moon or whatever.

The way I've come to think of (successful) rockets in this game is simply that a rocket is just series of liquid fuel "major" stages with solid fuel boosters serving as structure and aiding the liquid fuel. So one liquid fuel rocket on the top, and below that, x, and then x*x, etc. Also, you have to experiment with how many fuel tanks you put behind each engine. I generally put 2-3 on my topmost one, and 3-4 on the bottom most. Although if it weren't for certain computational limits, I might say 4-5 on the bottom.
I can probably upload something later, but I'm supposed to working on something right now :P
Anyone else think that the SRBs are not living up to their names? It was said that they give huge amounts of thrust but only for a short while, and cannot be deactivated. as it seems, they are that, but weaker than Liquid engines. shouldn't they be a little stronger?(225, 250 thrust? rather than 170?)
After many crashes, I finally made it back to Kerbin from the Mun.
Not that big of a deal, but I feel so accomplished.
At the risk of being late X3 is out

Not late.
no joke this is my favorite game ever
Especially now that I can fly VTOL craft in a low gravity vacuum environment. I really get off on stuff that flies around with an engine pointed at the ground, in a perfect balancing act between thrust and gravity, and flying them on the moon makes them even cooler because the lack of atmosphere lets you drift along at your leisure.
Can't wait for docking capability, and multiple ships with the capability to switch between them.

He is planning to introduce docking? I can't see how that would work in this game. KSP isn't a precision simulator, trying to dock two tiny ships (compared to the planet) in the vastness of space without any kind of advanced, precise control systems like Orbiter has will prove to be nigh impossible.

Well it's on the planned features list and it comes up in HarvesteR's posts sometimes, but yeah I don't think it'll be easy.
From what I gather though now that the planetary simulation and the orbit stuff is set up, he considers them at a point where they've established a good spaceflight simulation base on which to add more features, like docking, EVA, lots of stuff.

He was considering grappling hooks being added.
So you know, there's always that.
I imagine there will be some sort of magnetic device to make docking maneuvers easier.
or you could just enable precision mode and hope for the best

Some kind of docking helper? It could show the projected position of other ships/stations at some point in time and what you need to do to get there. Also when you get close enough the RCS could automatically align the two. [sp]I WANT TO BELIEVE[/sp]
