I do that all the time.
Enjoy your stack dancing on the pad.
I've landed it! My first Mun landing! Pics coming soon- I want to see if I can make it home first. It's been an outstanding odyssey nonetheless. Check this out- After my second stage burn, I missed the Mun and had to orbit in the egg-shaped pattern for several days before I caught it briefly, then lost it due to excess speed. This actually caused me to CHANGE DIRECTIONS so I went from a 90 degree orbit to a 270 degree orbit and I was almost perfectly lined up to hit the Mun on my next go-around, which I did. I had plenty of fuel left and managed to land with some to spare, with only basic SAS to assist me. I touched down on the bright side of the Mun, now I make my ascent...
Enjoy your stack dancing on the pad.
Blasphemy! All of my rockets are structurally sound.
Blasphemy! All of my rockets are structurally sound.
You must launch small payloads. I launch an interplanetary payload that is about 28 Metric-tons.
I don't use RCS like ever anymore :v:
I don't think I've ever used RCS. Sometimes I put it on my rockets, but promptly forget it's there and still never use it :v:
The return trip worked just as planned, but I missed Kearth because for some odd reason I forgot that the little pink circle on my gimble was the spot I needed to aim for, and I wasn't able to do anything about it until it was too late. Still, I am elated right now.

I hope this will be the beginning of a truly amazing space program. As soon as Christmas is past and I can spend money again, I'm preordering the game.
Never! One big rocket is enough, Jeb concurs.
It can always use more boosters
After a failure to get to the Mun, my ship fell into a half-year orbit from its starting point to the far side of the sun. After a two full orbits, the ship approaches Kerbin, for a potential landing... But no luck :v:

Some KSP news: harvy added a nav ball to the orbital map.
Well, some more progress news now: I've fixed up some issues with the latest changes today, and then proceeded onto the navball on map thing. I set up a little button on top of the navball which will minimize and maximize it. This button also responds to the Numpad '.' (Period) key, for convenience. In flight, it will just expand and collapse the navball, but in the map view, it will also unlock pitch, yaw, roll, throttle and SAS controls, so you can do trajectory corrections while still on the map. Now that I'm actually using this, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think it would be a lot better to have an orbital minimap in flight. But that is quite a lot more work than just bringing the navball up, so as a temporary solution, I think it can work. But then again, it might just be me not being used to it yet. We get quite accustomed with the way the game is, and there are some changes that feel very strange at first. Then we get used to them. Anyhow, I've found another bottleneck on the map today. The rendering functions for the orbits were actually running more than once per frame, which was making the map run much slower than it should. Also, I set it up to not calculate ellipses for orbits that are faded out. That should also help when we have more things orbiting. There is more that can be done to speed up the map view actually. Right now every orbit is recalculated all the time, and that's really not necessary for planets and moons, or even jettisoned parts. Only the ship actually needs to have it's orbit recalculated. But optimizing the map too much further right now isn't a very high priority. The map is pretty much completely disabled while you're not using it, so it doesn't affect flight performance too much, and since it is running fairly fast for now, we can probably leave it for later, when we start adding more stuff to it. Well, I've now been looking at flight performance in general here, to see if there isn't anything that can be optimized without dismantling half the game... So far I haven't found any easy targets here. I'm very much hoping Unity will deliver the 3.5 update before we do... and that it is as good as advertised ;) Right now it's hard to say how much of an improvement we've done on the flight scene so far... I have to set up some tests with the previous build and this one, and really measure the difference. Since most of our progress is slow, there hasn't been a moment where we noticed a sudden huge performance boost. The game does feel smoother though, so I think we've had several tiny little improvements that might add up to something. :) Cheers
I really, really want mip-mapping.
Finally! ICBMS! Thanks!
The Dragon is not a warhead. Its SpaceX's spacecraft.
Well, technically some crafts made in KSP may be considered warheads anyway. Probably not that efficient when all they do is flip over and crash in a cascade of explosions.

How?
Moving faster than a planet for the win.
Now imagine how much fuel you'd have to expend to get something as massive as a planet to move at that speed in the first place.
Gravity causes that to occur.
Gravity causes that to occur.
Gravity is the reason it'd maintain an orbit, yes. But you wouldn't be able to steer something into orbit using gravity alone.
What are you guys talking about they obviously use tons upon tons of solid boosters to put planets in orbit.....
