Anyone have a good rule-of-thumb guide for trying to hit a certain spot on the planet during re-entry? (Such as the space center.) Would be nice if orbital mechanics did some atmospheric calculations to determine where you'll land. (Assuming no interference from the player.)
I'm hoping the eventual auto-pilot module will have a feature for helping guide it to a specific landing zone. For now, there's some timing involved that I've never gotten once.
Would be nice if orbital mechanics did some atmospheric calculations to determine where you'll land. (Assuming no interference from the player.)
I think that is already in the game if you don't have enough power to get in orbit.
I think that is already in the game if you don't have enough power to get in orbit.
No.
Orbital map can be rotated you know, and it does do that.
Orbital map can be rotated you know, and it does do that.
I know it can be rotated, but it completely ignores air resistance.
I've been screwing around with this game for the past few day's I've managed to get a rocket that can get me into orbit but I want to get to the moon. I'm assuming that you have to somehow manipulate your orbit around the planet to make you get close enough to the moon for you to land on it but I don't understand how the orbiting works at all. I always end up with some weird oval that barely makes it around the whole planet. How do I adjust it to fit my needs?

Therefore, you can keep burning prograde at the low points of your orbit to raise the other end, giving you the means to even out your orbits. Now, using this same idea, we can burn prograde until the opposite end of the orbit intersects with the moon's (us folks call it the mün), which, if timed correctly, gets us within the mün's gravitational pull. All we have to do is slow down until we get a lünar orbit.

That's how I got there, and I believe that's how pretty much how everyone does it, i.e. the standard/best way. [editline]a[/editline] There's also a video by Oicani Gonzales on how to get to the moon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkk9YOuQT60 [editline]b[/editline] And in the OP there's also information on how to modify your orbit.
Winstonn, make your fellow FPers proud and be the creator of the first KSP unified docking system!
It shall be done :D i will be working on it once I get home from work.
Well I guess i will stop working on this :) Also, Winston could i get your docking ring? I will slap it ontop of Durgun inorder to bring about unified docking standards!!!!
i once spent 5 hours reading wikipedia because of lifting bodies. i'll never forget that day [editline]30th December 2011[/editline] i felt like i was wasting my life which tbh isnt far from reality if i can spend 5 hours in uni reading about lifting bodies instead of what im supposed to be doing (in class)
There is wasting your time, and there is reading Wikipedia. The two actions are mutually exclusive.
Wikipedia is like masturbating, its okay in moderation. But if done too much you need to get help. :v:

Wikipedia always starts with me researching an innocent topic like how planets were formed to things like Hydrogen Cyanide and how to make napalm. I think Wikipedia hopping put me on several government lists... :tinfoil: [editline]30th December 2011[/editline]
Wikipedia is like masturbating, it is okay in moderation, but if you do it every day, you earn a Ph.D
I should be a goddamn Ph.D in everything if that's the case.

I know this has already been stated; and I'm glad KSP is growing in popularity... But the forums are filled with silly "Armies" and "Corporations" and worst of all... Bronies. And not the "good" kind of Bronies. I'm talking the kind that fill up half-a-page with their animated avatar and freaking signature, too. Reminds me of the Minecraft forums. :(

It's really unfortunate, but game specific forums almost always become a shitfest over time, with only a few people wading at the top that have more IQ points than fingers. Anything that isn't moderated to cull the morons becomes filled with them, and since gaming organizations don't want to get rid of their customers, bans are rare. Just take a look at the Ubisoft forums or the Firefall forums. Hell, just take a look at the facebook comments on NASA press releases. Even the GMod forums have basically become a quarantine zone for the stupidest people to ever walk the Earth.
That's why i've already adblocked tim_barrett's fucking annoying brony signature. [editline]31st December 2011[/editline] for future reference, the current one is http://iambrony.jsmart.web.id/gif/files/131334963318.gif [editline]31st December 2011[/editline] and his avatar http://iambrony.jsmart.web.id/gif/files/tumblr_lw0g2hsOtj1qf9djko6_250.gif

(Tim_Barrett was banned for this post -- Reason: "Image macro and trolling") One of us really needs to become a mod on there.
The main reason that most people go there is for mods, perhaps a dedicated website for mods would help the people who don't want to sift through the shit and bronies on that site. Maybe something like TES-nexus, but for KSP.
Maybe ask harv if making a scraper that just takes the OP out and puts it on another website, with replies as avatar and signatureless comments, would be acceptable?
I can't adblock the KSP forums because EVERY avatar will be blocked. But when I turn it off I can't block bronies :suicide:
I can't adblock the KSP forums because EVERY avatar will be blocked. But when I turn it off I can't block bronies :suicide:
Right click avatar, copy image url, paste into another tab, adblock the image.
