Kerbal Space Program, or: "How many rockets can I slap onto this thing?"

Then finally, there is a terrain collider, which is a simpler mesh that also masks the terrain. The reason it exists is that processing mesh-based collision for the entire 19k+ polygon terrain would turn the game into a slideshow. So this mesh follows the ship, so it crashes as it should.

Does this explain why if you're high in the air watching a part fall, it hits the terrain then vanishes? Or does it just go out of draw-distance?
Not necessarily. I just wanted to see how those parts were like.
I wouldn't add those parts anyways without permisison from the authors, but I don't even know who they are :v:
About pricing, that's still to be defined, but it will probably be around those figures you guys said: 5 -10 USD on the first releases, then 10 - 15 later on, and a final retail price of around 20 USD.
(Disclaimer: DO NOT TAKE THESE VALUES AS DEFINITE - had to say it ;) )
Cheers
Will you do this prepurchase-pricing thing with the logics like Minecraft's creator, Notch did?
currently at 1050km and still going at 1700m/s. my best so far
Are the continents set in stone (pun not intended) or can they vary? I'm wondering because I would love to make a map of Kearth, complete with little countries and such.
I'm fairly sure they're set in stone. The launch area is on the coast of an africa shaped extension every time for me.
It appears to be the same in everyone else's screenshots too.
I've built a really reliable platform for four stage rockets.
From top to bottom:
Final Stage:
Control Pod
3x Small Fuel Tanks
1x Small Liquid Booster
--8x AV-T1 Winglets at the bottom, aligned with the booster struts
Stage 3:
1x Small to Large Cone
2x Large Fuel Tanks
1x Large Liquid Booster
--12x AV-R8 Winglets, aligned with booster struts
Stage 2:
1x 5 Splitter piece
5x Small Solid Boosters
Stage 1:
5x Small Solid Boosters
Stage 1 engages, immediately disengage to get thrust. It'll fly upwards in an almost perfectly straight path. Once the first stage boosters run out of fuel, fire the second after about 5-10 seconds of delay. At this stage the craft will begin to tilt to one side slightly I DON'T KNOW WHY. I can't stop it.
Once it gets to the large liquid booster shit really picks up. By the time it's out of fuel the small should take you to orbit

Awesome. Now to find a way to map it all.
Nevermind my last build after consecutive trials the fucking craft refuses to go where I want and just arcs back into the ground
That shit pisses me off so fucking much. It's like you have absolutely NO fucking control
12 and a half hours of orbit, the game crashes.

If my math's correct, I went around Kearth ~60 times, or once every twelve minutes.
May we see this epic rocket sir? Any tips on getting into a stable orbit?
First of all I just want to say that the game is amazing and extremely addictive. I'm sure to buy it.
One improvement I could see to the build system would be to allow certain parts to clip through each other. What I specifically have in mind is to fit my last stage within the 1x3 adapted shroud instead of just stacking it on top of it. It would lower the center of gravity and also look much nicer.

Need more SAS Modules
I Win

Be cool if things would heat up on reentry.
anyone elses cards heating up like crazy playing this?
anyone elses cards heating up like crazy playing this?
Yes. This god damn HD3850 is my heatsource in the winter, it went to 103 god damn degrees while playing this.
Need more SAS Modules
I have one and it doesn't do shit
May we see this epic rocket sir? Any tips on getting into a stable orbit?
I couldn't save it, seeing as it was the first run, and it crashed. But basically it was:
1st stage: Parachute, module
2nd stage: 1 SAS, two fuel tanks, one Liquid rocket,
3rd stage, 3 SAS, splitter, one SAS per end, fuel tank, liquid rocket
4th stage, 4 SAS modules, one thruster (the long one from the pack) per three prongs

yeah, im sitting at 101 degress right now. but i dont want to stop. in the middle of my best flight so far

My rocket only used one SAS module. It's more about rocket structure and balance more than it is about those stabilizers.

Even a rocket that has four equally balanced SRBs below it tends to tip. SASs help loads.
I have one and it doesn't do shit
As i said, you need more, winglets don't do anything game wise, so you need more SAS modules to keep yourself steady.
got into orbit with this baby.

wow. you really have to put commitment into this game. 45 mins in, im 3 million metres from the planet and still going at 620m/s, and slowing down really slowly

Yeah, but this:

and you can make it up to space without even using the SAS. If you're using a shit load of SAS's, you're doing it wrong imo.
Into a sort of semi orbit on my first attempt

Just in case you're making the same mistake I did: You have to hold F for the SAS modules to do anything at all.

This is a planned feature already. But it will require some time to get in. The plan is to add a whole set of 'fairing' parts, that can be placed over others. Using fairings will reduce drag on exposed parts, and generally make the ship look cooler :v:
Oh, and by the way, new video with the new advanced shipbuilding features:

Nice. Seems to make a lot of things a hell of a lot easier
Can I have sex with you? i want that symmetry NOW
The first versions are free to download and play, and will remain so forever. After the game reaches a certain state of development, it will be available for purchase at a discounted price, which will gradually increase up to it's final retail price as the game nears completion. So by ordering early, you get the game for a lot less, and you'll get all future updates for free
I wonder how much the full version would be.

Would it be possible for you to release some of the finished features sooner than the 18th? Such as symmetry and the removing certain parts for later, because these features will make building ships soo much easier. Having those would be wonderful. Only when you're finished with them, though.
