Finally punched the face of god and got up to 200,000.
It would be cool if you could put a flight module in that utilizes your SAS to direct your ship, like an autopilot.
It would be cool if you could put a flight module in that uses your SAS to pilot your ship, essentially an autopilot.
You'd have to tell it where to go and such, it's probably easier to just do it yourself unless you actually want to aim for a specific piece of land.(Until other planets are in, at least.)
It would be cool if you could put a flight module in that uses your SAS to pilot your ship, essentially an autopilot.
Increased autopilot function, and context dependent automated actions (e.g. set X thruster to Y% throttle until Z altitude, if spacecraft A reaches B altitude) would definitely be set the way for a wider universe of interacting space stations and the like. And long-haul voyages when light-speed isn't practical (as I found out with my aiming for Kearth at 1.3 c). Another example, you could plot a course for a resupply to the outer solar system, let that craft go off, whilst building more shuttles/craft on the ground. Or not having to constantly check your LEO satellites and letting their ion-thrusters compensate for orbital decay. [editline]15th July 2011[/editline] Autopilot is essential a must for docking with stations, at the very least, to reach them (without lengthy calculation), as space is an absurdly huge volume. With multiple spacecraft, you'd probably need a telemetry screen as well.
Or you could just angle your ship at the station and tell Jeb to try not to do to much damage to it.
I wish the SAS wouldn't fight manual controls. For example, if the ship is rotating clockwise on its own, then the SAS should counter it. However, if I push the E button, the SAS should stop fighting that clockwise rotation for as long as I'm supporting it. It sucks wanting to nudge the direction the ship is facing just a bit and have the SAS fighting it. Yet you know if you disengage it completely for a moment everything will go to shit, so you're pretty much fucked.

Sometimes even SAS can't fight motion. Had a ship that wouldn't stop spinning even with SAS. [editline]14th July 2011[/editline] With multiple SAS modules, to.
So how do I orbit?
you gotta go up
Apparently changing stages with lots of modules packed tightly together can cause a massive explosion when the discarded modules are hit with the exhaust from the next stage firing.
So how do I orbit?
i usually fly up to about 50K then make my way into a direction, then depending on my altitude i get to my horizontal speed needed to keep me in orbit and tah dah this has been posted already, but ill repost it for ya https://gist.github.com/1073201
I got to 2000km's and i though i was high up... fuck you guys. Are you all using the normal engines or did you use custom ones?
I got to 2000km's and i though i was high up... fuck you guys. Are you all using the normal engines or did you use custom ones?
ive been able to get further than that with normal rockets. just keep your designs simple
I just had a 45 minute glide from 1000 meters. I'd love to see a similar game where you could design regular aircraft.
X-Plane
I tried to achieve orbit and ended up at 8000km Couldn't even get that high when I wanted to :((
I find that making ICBM's is a lot funner.
Oh yeah! I finally managed to land my "rocket" without parachutes, but lots of wings.
Oh yeah! I finally managed to land my "rocket" without parachutes, but lots of wings.
I don't think the wings does anything or am i wrong
I don't think the wings does anything or am i wrong
They have a drag coefficient, also they make my rockets go crazy.
They have a drag coefficient, also they make my rockets go crazy.
Yeah, drag and weight but they don't give any advantage like better steering or something
This is the best game.
Jeb is always so happy(OH SHIT OH SHIT) and not even a frown
I've only built some simple rockets so far. This is my best one, which peaks at about 1300 KM: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/CFHKl.jpg[/thumb] How do you guys build those rockets that reach 4000 KM and beyond?
Makin' a better warp nacelle, Liquidfuel or SRB? Also, website has been replaced with 'It works!'

I go to the site and all I see is the text "It works!" :( The forum link turns up a 404...
